Car hisses when driving along bumpy road. Hissing is constant when vehicle fully elevated. Air coming out as shown (front n/s):

Not known about air from there (sounds like it is ), but here is how to replace strut:

And that is a good price from Paddock. Island 4x4 used to be best but they are at £219 + VAT now .

Are you sure it's not coming from the airbag?

You'll probably find that the rubber is worn through around the back where you can't see. It's not a bad job to do. Make sure you have a second pairs of hands with you when you do it. Once you've lowered the strut down you can get to the pipe connector ok. Only other thing I can think of is that we have a had a few where the bolts through the hub carrer have been siezed so try to undo these first! Happy fixing!!

Almost inspired to have a go, thought the instructions (link above) were great - not sure my toolbox is adequate though! Any really good engineers in Hampshire (New Forest) want to do it?

The instructions for replacing the strut showed both being replaced. Do you have to replace both at the same time? I was not planning to do that.

Can't help on the fitting side I'm afraid. The strut assembly is also the shocker which are always recommended to be fitted as a pair, but that's also in an ideal world. I always offer our customer both options more so for the legal side but generally it's only the leaking one that gets done there and then. It might be worth checking the other once you are all back up and running.

ALWAYS recommended to replace shock absorbers and springs in pairs. You'll kick yourself if you do only one then the other goes 5000 miles later in any case.

Regarding tools, a good socket set, some spanners and a breaker bar with extension if needed should do you, and a good jack and axle stands. Oh, you may need a reset and calibration tool (IID/RAC etc)

Don't know of anyone specific (e.g. RR indie) in the Forest, but depending on where you are I may be able to recommend a good garage. (expat New Forester !)
