No worries pleb it does some good to air it stops things building up.

I think what really winds me up is that the victims my kids wife and myself are the losers while the lads who were on my drive at quarter to ten at night in the pitch dark are not punished and seem to have got away scott free.
I am not bothered for myself but for my 15 and 11 year old to see me arrested and the wife to be abused is crap. My kids aint saints but I know where they are at that time of night.
And its cost me £150 to install CCTV which I didnt want as I dont live in an area where it is necessary (or so i thought) Mine was a blue one! Smile

Blackvue is soon to be given a perm + feed in my FF as one of the main reasons is if I have to see the ex during visitation that the car and myself are protected should it come to it with video evidence and thinking of a 2nd for the rear and plumbing them both in on their own feeds Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

got to be careful
Couple of weeks ago I caught six little Censored On my drive interfering with the FF chased and caught two. ( yes stupid i know but you just react you only think about knives and being outnumbered later)

That's the problem these days, if you had just chased them off your property and not pursued them the police might, possibly, if they could be bothered, done something about it. However because you chased them then you somehow become a criminal.

I probably would have done the same as you, and would be similarly as outraged when the police took their side. However there has to be a balance because if it gets out of hand you can end up permanently damaging someone (see the link in my previous post). At that point I do agree it would be disproportionate to give someone permanent (or long term e.g. broken bones) damage just for catching them messing with your car.

quite agree mr pie and even though I am a big lad (6'4") the reality was five fifteen year olds against one and I dont believe that grabbin them by the scruff of the neck putting the fear of god into them and marching them to the police station was in any way over the top. The officer who inteviewed me said in some ways they were lucky because some blokes would have kicked Censored out of them and left it at that.
my problem was that at the moment 'juvenille' is the current political buzz word so anything involving them has to be investigated otherwise I might have just had a talking to off plod. where it falls down is that a 15 year old 6 foot gym bunny weighing in at 15 stone with a knife is still a juvenille and apparently has rights even if a law abiding householder who is trying to protect what he has worked hard for does not. Mine was a blue one! Like others on here, I have access to guns, as I am a shotgun and firearms certificate holder.

Safety and the law are paramount. Guns and ammunition are locked away, out of site, normally in an awkward place to get to, and stored separately. Having a gun 'to hand' is daft, as it increases the chance of it being turned against you, or an accident happening, and if you have kids (I do not) then it would be just unthinkable

At all times when not in use, guns should be locked away.

If someone broke into my house I wouldn't be able to get to the cabinet, or stealthily remove a gun or ammunition. A golf club or rounders bat is much easier to get hold of.

Would I use a gun against an intruder in certain circumstances? Not sure. In the past no, because the law was so crazy that you would be branded the irresponsible criminal, guns taken off you, and jailed. With a criminal record you can never get your guns back and your lifestyle of shooting etc is over.

Now, since the incident at Welby nr Melton (only a few miles from me - in fact some of my friends contacted me asking if it WAS me! Shocked ) it has become possible to use neccessary force in the heat of the moment.

It is SO open to problems though. If I fired my gun at someone in my garden would I be prosecuted as it's less than 50ft away from a public right of way? Would I be prosecuted for having my gun out of it's sleeve less than 50 ft from a public right of way/road?

If push came to shove, I'd aim for their legs, never the face, that's intent to kill. Discovery 4 HSE

I think you would have to be very unlucky to kill someone with a 12 bore 28 – 7 ½ even at close range if you do not aim at their face.
As you said, if you aim at their legs, it would take the fight out of them without too much damage to the body.

And yes, guns need to be locked away out of reach but what about a knife?
Anyone has a knife in the kitchen that can be used against them.

There may be a case to be made to have a golf club handy just in case.

Maglite is one of the best - you can claim it was the nearest thing to hand. Used it once when someone tried to get into the passenger seat of my car at a set of lights. Satisfying thunk to!

RRUK - from memory the issue is "causing alarm to a person by discharging a shotgun/ firearm closer than 50 ft from the centre of a public right of way/road" - so the hard shoulder of the M25 is fine ...

Surely the issue is that the thieving scrotes ignore the law and then the police take the easy option of arresting you when you tell them you have caught an intruder - I'm not sure why anyone would incriminate themselves in this way.
