i used to run achilles desert hawk 285 35 22 on my D3(only tyre i could find with correct weight rating!) these were on ebay for about £100 per corner. I did about 10000 miles on mine and was very happy with them |

Budget wide summer tyres just as the temperature drops for winter could be a seriously false economy .... |

i used them on my D3 for over a year due to the fact they were the only tyre i could find in the size that had a 112 weight rating( need at least a 110 for a d3).I did over 10000 miles on mine in less than 12 months including a lot of motorway driving(they still had loads of life left when i sold the car). The only thing i did notice was that fuel economy dropped by about 1.2-2 mpg with the 22s on but i put this down to the extra width. Didnt use them during the bad weather for obvious reasons but never had any issues. Would rather have a budget tyre that was rated for the job than a premium tyre that wasnt. I kept my 19"s for the winter and during the summer there was a lot more rubber on the road due to the extra width so grip wasnt an issue. Dont know what weight rating is needed for the fullfat but i cant imagine it being much less than the D3?

Sal, something else to consider... We have seen quite a few cheap cheap budgets failing with bulges over this last year... All rears too for some reason? Maybe a weight thing? All motorway use cars, so speed and weight related i would guess... The difference between a budget £90 and a premium (toyo/yokohama) is £170... Food for thought... Craig ![]() |

Indeed, but the one time you do need to use it and you stick a 3 ton car through the back of someone else's car, possibly with their kids in the back, you'll probably wish you had spent the extra on tyres up to the job. Also if you're doing motorway driving you'll be putting more heat through them than round town driving which could lead to earlier failure as mentioned by CTC. While the chances of these things are happening are low, the consequences are often catastrophic and if you have a chance to avoid it, even if it's a pain in the pocket, then I personally think it's a worth it. ![]() 07 Supercharged - Still breaking her in!
