Hi all

Got back from two week holiday yesterday to find no electrics on my l322. The remote isn't opening the doors (got into it manually ok), but the key won't turn in the ignition, no lights on dash, nothing. I have checked the battery and it is only showing as 11v, so I've put it on charge (it's a new battery) and it's now charging at 13.6v.

But would the low voltage (i.e. 11v) be so low it won't even turn the lights on, or allow the remote to work? I expected something to work.

it does sound like a flat battery...the fullfats ecu's talk to each other and if one particular ecu isnt getting its required voltage then it wont pass on any info to the next.....

once your battery is charged i would suggest turning the steering wheel fully left and then fully right to avoid any error messages .. ... - .- -.

Just be patient, charge the battery for the rest of the day, should be fine then.

Battery on charge for over 30 hours and started no problem this morning. Did a 15 mile round trip, turned off engine, left it for an hour or so, back out to start it and........dead! Only 10.5v in the battery.

Read loads of stuff regarding possible Final Stage Resistor fault so ordered a replacement (I have detected a whirring noise lately from behind the climate control panel, after I take the key out of the ignition). Can't believe that would drain the battery in less than two hours, surely? Anyway, by process of elimination, hopefully this will cure the problem! Although I guess the alternator could be faulty

Hate to admit, but I am getting a little bit miffed with this I've had nothing but problems since I bought it - seems to be one problem after another. And as much as I absolutely love the whole driving experience, I am beginning to wish I had never set eyes on the damn thing! I see an imminent sale as soon as the electrics are sorted. Cheers

Assuming there are no issues with the alternator, could your battery have been killed by the recent cold weather?

How old is the battery?

If its over 5 years old, I would change it for a new one. If its the original, then definitely time for a change! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

As above my battery had been okay'ish up until the other night when i got out in the morning it was stone dead , had to get a new one as one of the cells were gubbed , and with it being -5 up here the other morning didn't help either …  ====================================

Could be a dud battery.

I've only had the vehicle 5 months and I had to buy a new battery within weeks of owning it! So it's a fairly new battery.

One other thing I have noticed, it is proving almost impossible to fully tighten the clamp on the earth terminal to the point where the clamp doesn't move at all. I think if I pulled hard enough it will come off, but I just can't seem to tighten it so that it won't budge at all. I've read this is (yet another!) common problem on L322s, presumably addressed by replacing the clamp. Add it to the list  Cheers

beg, borrow or buy a voltmeter/multimeter and check the idle voltage on the battery , should be 14.5 'ish volts, if not then its your alternator and if it is then its your battery..... ... - .- -.

Plus it could have been a Rogue battery you got , you do get them …..  ====================================

Guess it could be the battery. But I've got it back on charge so I can start her up and check the charging rate. I've got a multi-meter, so no worries there.

I'd be looking to improve the battery -ve connection before you consider spending money. The terminal clamp should be tight.
If you have any thin bits of copper or aluminium handy try fitting a small piece inside the clamp before fitting in place. Should be enough to allow the clamp to tighten.
