Just watched the episode on youtube and have had my mind changed about facelifting my 2004 FF - is the 900 for the parts quoted realistic? I know a few on here have done this but until now I've not really considered it. It does make a big difference to the car's look. Has anyone done a write up on the facelift? (ok ok I know ...use the search....I will) "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Like most television, when you know about the subject being discussed, you realise how little the people on the box actually know. It goes to prove that if you try to expand your knowledge from watching TV you are going to learn things that are entirely wrong.

I've been involved a couple of times in my life with 'News items' that have been discussed at length on Newsnight and other programmes, and without fail they have always got the details wrong, or spun the issues so that the discussions were meaningless. I had a lot of involvement in the failed NHS National Programme for IT - and every single news item on that was wrong, lies or just so superficial as to be meaningless and a waste of perfectly good electrons to transmit it. Newspaper and magazine articles are usually even worse.

WD sort of pretends to be a factual but entertaining programme, but last night's one showed it's more about entertainment than facts.

I too noticed that Ed China seemed pretty comfortable in a polo shirt for a man working in a workshop at -40C! They never mentioned the cost of the brand new tyres (600 or so I reckon at 'trade'), the rebuilt compressor from a 'Land Rover Specialist' at £120 was the bargain of a lifetime... The new centre console wasn't costed either, along with the new rear bumper... This list of omissions was as long as your arm - and he never even thought about changing the oil or filters.

I can see why he never painted the cuts he made for the headlights, as it was going straight to the paintshop anyway.

But if they had sold it for the amount shown, they'd have lost at least a couple of grand I reckon - and they never cost Ed's time (he obviously does it for the love of it) or the cost of heating the workshop and the £100k of tools, ramps etc Ed has access to.

I know it's splitting hairs but when they did the respray, they sprayed the white paint over the bottom tailgate retaining pins on each side, so that will just come off after closing the tailgate a few times, not sure why they didn't just undo them, its easy!

I didn't see but I bet they did the same on all the door shuts.

i've just watched a recording as well and found it entertaining...

didnt have to sort my injectors or compressor on mine so found these bits interesting and the front end conversion looked easy...

The rear bumper was not replaced... it was an Overfinch Aero 1 rear undertray & exhaust tips, which was there when he purchased the car and when he sold it...

Considering what they started with I think they actually did a good job. White is not for me tho'..

Are you saying I have no brain.....

However forget the conversion and just assume the £5k cost minor fixes and £3k respray. It only had £100k on the clock so a TD6 would get £10-11k easy with a fresh coat of paint. Not saying it a great project I would want but it was not a scrap heap car....

Cost of the work involved to restore it Gaz... If you had to pay someone to do all that work you would have a FFRR owing you £12-15K i would think... And all without addressing all the usual FFRR issues that im sure they glossed over in the program... Must be worth £8-10K in parts if broke efficiently... No brainer really...

I think thats the crux of it Craig, IF you had to pay someone to do the work! WD have never claimed the show is about 'how to be a car dealer' they say its about 'rescuing cars that are almost beyond help' and showing what can be done, I know plenty of guys that could have everything on that show themselves, so in that case after selling the left over parts you have about £1500 needed to buy everything, 6.5K for that would be pretty cheap. For it to make 8-10K you would need to sell every little bit and that takes a long time. Prob no different to my Hayabusa I smashed up, I could have broken it for more than I paid easily and just bought a newer one BUT I now know exactly whats been done to my bike and I know that its now safe and that makes me more confident to ride it hard and race her at the Pod. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
