Odd question, gents:

I've noticed my S/C seems to have far more creep intensity at idle than any other automatic car I've ever owned. You can hold her on the brakes well enough, but it seems like you're holding her back.

To highlight this point, I've noticed that if I stand in traffic, even for a few seconds, in Drive with my foot on the brake and then select Neutral, when I release the foot brake the S/C does a little lurch forwards. Not by much, but it's there. It's almost as if there's a lot of torque being held back.

For comparison with a car of similar power / torque, my AMG E55 has a similar effect but never lurches, although you do also feel the car ease up a little when selecting N. I know the gearbox in that is absolutely fine.

I know last year this forum discussed the protocol of how long to sit in D with the foot brake applied and Gary commented that the torque generated at idle is only around 33lb/ft, so not much. My S/C seems, SEEMS, to be a little more eager than that.

Creep speed isn't excessive or in any way a worry. Idle speed is fine as well, but the gearbox changes down noticeably at low speed almost as if the clutch is being re-engaged a little too quickly. I've been assured the gearbox oil and filter was changed two weeks ago, but will get this checked again.

The lurch is quite an amusing facet assuming all is well. Which is why I'm asking now. Is this and the slightly notchy gearbox change-down acceptable / normal for the S/C or is it pointing to a potential or real problem? Si. <This is my name.

Do you know whether the ECUs of the engine management and the gearbox are up to date ?? That could make a difference. Mine does it a bit as well (ECUs are up to date), when you slide it into neutral it, almost reluctantly, settles down.

Does yours also take a second or so (feels a bit long to me) to engage drive when you engage it from N ?? And it does so with a bit of a lurch as well ? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Gearbox update and gear selector greasing helps reduce it, but I do notice mine does creep quite a bit.

I remember my local LR Indy talking to me about this in detail. My SC used to take off like a stabbed rat when you took your foot off the brake, especially when cold. Apparently this was a known 'issue' and an engine management software upgrade solved it.  2006 4.2 SC
