Scotland 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Epsom Green
First post!!

Good evening guys & gals. I'm about to commit one of the deadly sins as far as car forums go by asking a technical question in my first post so please forgive me!!!
My names Paul and I'm from not so sunny Aberdeen! I own an Epsom Green 02, TD6 Vogue and I absolutely love it even though I sometimes think it hates me!!!
So here I am seeking knowledge and enlightenment! A few weeks back I changed the main rad, thermostat, water pump and belts on my Td6 vogue as the rad had a hole in it. The operation was successful and the cooling system was struck off of my lengthy Rangie to do list! That was until last night when I went to jump in and go to work only to find a wee puddle underneath! After I'd stopped crying and self harming I had quick once over under the bonnet but it was dark and I was sucicidal!!!
So this morning I dropped the splash pan and got the inspection light out. Everything was caked so I spent a while degreasing and drying everything. Gave it ten minutes and got back underneath. To my amazement it was nothing to do with my handy work! No loose clips or nipped pipes But I could see coolant dripping off the rear of the air con compressor. (My compressor is knackered and had no belt on it)
Now this may be a daft question but does the coolant run through the compressor? Or can anyone think of what would be behind there that could leak?
Granted I need to jack it up to get directly underneath as it was only up on the airbags.
Any winning suggestions paid in beer tokens!!

Paul.

Yeah I thought that initially too mate. But my air con compressor is knackered and doesn't have a belt on it and it's coolant that's dripping down from somewhere behind or above the compressor.

If it's coolant it's certainly not normal and as you've guessed, you have a problem. Sorry to say that. Sad

Welcome by the way.

Strange question I know, but you don't sometimes go under the name of Pauline do you? Just we have to check all new members these days. If I don't RRUK will come along and ask. Nothering against transvestites, just one particular transvestite.

It's blue mate. It's the definitely the coolant I pumped in a few weeks back! Antifreeze with buttering agents, it's just not as nice when you taste it!!!

Paul, welcome... The coolant should be pink for a starter... If you have put blue in (by accident) then unfortunately you will need to get it out and replace it with the correct pink antifreeze... Blue is Non organic and will adversly eat your head gasket where as Pink is Organic and will lubricate your gaskets and other parts hence "never the twain shall meet" approach Thumbs Up

I found so much conflicting reports for the TD6 as to which coolant to use Craig. Did my mates TD5 last week and it was the red OAT coolant. The reason I finally opted for blue in mine was the guy in Auto save looked it up and it came up blue!!!
I shall listen to him no further!!!

Id'e go back to the man in Auto save and demand the right coolant (explaining to him what the blue will do to your head gasket) Unless they will pay for the head gasket when it goes wrong Whistle

Welcome Paul,

Last week, I went to the LR main dealer to collect 1 litre of the same coolant they use (50/50 mix with water):

The MD uses Xpart, OAT5 Anti Freeze longlife (organic acid technology), Approved for MG Rover, picture of the bottle below:

Hope this assists Thumbs Up
