HI EVERYONE; it is getting to that time of year when the fbh will come into play ( or not as the case may be )!!!!

i have a 2004 TD6; and my heater will not start up? it was working fine last winter and never failed to start but i tried it few times during the week but although the orange light comes on showing it is in timer mode, when the time comes for it to fire up nothing happens.!!! the temp gauge displays a temp of 11.5c so i assume it will/should start at this temp.?

last year i had tried to start the heater several times to no avail so forgot all about it then i tried it again on a frosty morning i think in december and it started first time and after that i never had another problem..

in hind sight i think the reason it would not start before was simply due to the ambient temp still being too high? as i understand it will not operate above 16c ? is this correct?

what i have noticed is that i used to hear a ticking coming from the back of the car in the mornings when i used to back out the drive, but i dont hear that anymore. do you think this would point to the pump not operating? and if so can i check it in any way to see if it is working.

it sounds like the ticking comes from the boot so am i right in thinking that it is under the hump under the spare wheel or is this the compressor?

any advice would be most welcome

HI STAN? thanks for the reply. but does that reply refer to my problem ? , my problem seems to be that after i set the timer on the nav screen and press ok, the orange light comes on indicating it is in timer mode and after the other systems close down this light goes out. normally as i recall, when the time came for it to start, the light would come on and start to flash as it was firing up.

but now when the time is reached, nothing happens at all, even the light does not come on; but as soon as you put the key in the ignition and turn on the ignition, the light comes on to show it is still in timer mode?

as i mentioned before, i cant hear the ticking from the pump wherever it is positioned.

are you saying that the system will not work above 5C,? if so, this would explain that i dont actually have a problem as the mornings are still around 12C?

i have been looking at my post and wonder if there is a little confusion on my part as to what i am saying i have a problem with? i have the timed climate system showing on the nav screen and not the park heat ? whether that is something different? i dont know.

it would appear that yours isnt firing because its not cold enough... ... - .- -.

THANKS for yours replies . perhaps it is simply due to the temp still? i remember last year it would fire during the warmer months, then i just left it and it started when i tried it in nov/dec;;.

but i thought it was supposed to come on under 16c. and as the morning temp is around 12C at the moment in the dordogne, thats why i thought there was a fault, plus i cant here the ticking in the back, but perhaps i only used to hear that also just in the cooler months?

does that make any sense? i guess i will just have to wait until the temp drops and see what happens then?, so are you saying it should operate from 5C and below ?

it appears below 5c is the switch on point and the ticking noise is probably the fuel pump pumping to the fbh..

hi stan ok thanks for that. yes i remember the ticking noise but i could not remember if i only heard it when the burner was bieng used in any form or whether it was always there? so i guess it was as you say when the burner is running or about to fire up etc.

yes i doubt the temp will continue much longer but we do get away with a lot here, having said that we also get very low; last year we had minus 21 for a day or two. but fortunately the real cold only lasts a few weeks.

lets hope at that point i hear a nice blowing noise coming from under the weel arch

I had a red led appear this morning in my way to work. I haven't activated mine yet so what's the Led for?

the fbh should come on automatically when you start the range or it'll come on via the timer..

Just remembered.

16 degrees for remote/timed climate
5 degrees to kick in with the engine running.

I think.  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

What I understand with mine (2007 TDV8) is the following:

FBH will automatically fire up on start up if the temp is below 15C. It will switch off when running temp is reached.

Remote will fire up FBH if engine off and HEVAC controls were previously left on, if temp is below 15C and will set heater and fan controls to max for up to 30 mins or until battery voltage is low. This is cancelled when engine is started and normal HEVAC setting will resume.

Remote will switch on full fans to cool the interior if engine off and HEVAC controls on, if temp above 15C. Again for max 30 mins or until battery is low.

FBH will often purge for a few seconds after engine switch off - especially after short trips.

Hope that helps. Or it may just have confused matters  2012 5.0L S/C

WELL i dont know what to think now. whether to wait until its 5c and below to see if it comes on or accept there is a problem if it is not starting upon reaching 16c. im sure that is the figure stated in the handbook?

as i dont hear the ticking, when the time on time is reached, perhaps this is the problem with pump?

the trouble is im sure it need a lot lower temp than 16c last year before it would fire up????

is there anyway i can test this fuel pump and if so is is located under the rear seats or from under the vehicle?
