Cures for black screen on reversing?

Quick question as this issue seems to be quite common; the nav screen on my 06 Supercharged has recently started to black out when reverse selected - not always, but most times.

I've read about varios fixes/upgrades to camera etc, but anyone any ideas as to the root cause of this? I've checked the electrics in the rear compartment and it's all dry as a bone. Big Cry

Well I had the same problem, couldn't find a real reason, got irritated and gave it a knock on the head, it works since....if you take out the inner plastic on top of the upper bootlid you'll see a little connector orange brownish, unplug clean, dry plug in again and it might help.

the plastic casing of the camera is in two halves. This often lets water in.

If you dismantle it and use some contact cleaner and then re-seal better (maybe even 'pot' it with silicone) it may be ok. I only got one go with mine and it was fried so I replaced the entire thing. N.B if you do go that route, you need a new wiring harness(the 2010 camera has a plug socket, not a fixed cable), and camera cradle and should move it to the right partly for clearance on the plug assembly, and partly so the yellow lines match up.

The updated camera is a better shell- perhaps they noticed it.
Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice guys; I've had a look and it's very damp inside the casing so in the process of drying it out, using cleaner on the contacts and reassembling with the aid of a silcone sealer. Fingers crossed! Bow down
