FFS RANT disco roof rails.

C Censored k

Bought some roof rails for the disco off of local stealer, fitting looked simple, three torx screws each side!

First you have to remove the rail trims, these are held on by press in plastic fixings which push into the captive nuts which hold on the rails..... Needless to say they all snapped off in the holes.

Had to then drill the plastic out and run a tap into the holes..... Which i did, however when fitting the rail on one side i hadnt run the tap into the hole enough and the set screw snapped off in the hole.... Censored so i had to drill that out and re tap the hole. Which i did.

But when i was backing out the tap it snapped off in the hole, as its a hss tap i cant drill it out Censored . I have to get a tap extractor from cromwells on monday and hope i can get it out! Otherwise im going to give it a "damn good thrashing" Censored

Censored (for good measure) ffffing things.

Rant over. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The little plastic clips are the pain, they wont pull out, it is possible to screw then out gently but more often than not they snap off, they seem to be an "improvement" over the d3 where the gutter trims are pictured as clipping in, god knows why, all bar 2 of mine snapped off. Obviously be careful drilling them out, i managed not to drill through the roof but it would be all too easy!

The rails themselves arent to bad to fit i mostly put it down to may lack of the appropriate tap, then snapping the bleeding thing off. The second side went on fine, having learned the knack! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Possibly, they should just screw off then you will only have to take the clips out of the holes on the lower section of the roof, and then get the plastic out and bolt the front fixing on the extended rails into the exposed captive nut the rails bolt over the gutter trim. Piece of pee for a man with enough tools!

Could only find one shop in derby which sells an extractor for a broken tap! And at 4pm on sat they were shut! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Right, tap extractor worked a treat and the offending broken tap is out, roof rails securely attached with a replacement stainless m6 button head screw,

Easy if you have the correct kit Whistle but why they made it so difficult in the first place astounds me, if a punter bought these to fit a d4 and didnt have a box full of tools to play with then they would be knackered! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
