When I turn the ignition on the following message appears - "HDC Inactive" - anyone know what this is??

You have a problem with your Air Suspension .

I also understand that this is one message that can be thrown up if you have low battery voltage.

From the handbook.

"HDC INACTIVE A fault in the Hill Descent Control
system has occurred.
Do not attempt the planned
descent/ascent and consult your
retailer at the earliest opportunity."

You could try switching the HDC off and on again.

I thought the HDC and Air Suspension were connected in some way?

If the HDC Inactive message pops up, doesn't this automatically drop the suspension height?

In theory, you have a problem with your suspension. In practice, you almost certainly have a problem with your battery, ie. it's on it's last legs. My 4.4V8 started doing this and six months later I had to replace the (original!) battery. Never had the problem since.

What appears to happen is that there isn't enough power in a low battery to self-test all the systems before the engine starts, hence the warning which immediately clears as soon as sufficient power is supplied.

hi i get this some times, not that oftern but i think its one of them gremlings, did it go when you switched it off and then on, if so dont worry my mate gets it at least once a week and he never had a prob with his car. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

HDC Inactive would display when switch is activated to show it is not working - if it comes up when ignition starts, part of system checks, then disappears then I would say 'JW911' is correct, and low volatge is causing the phantom warning. Worth checking battery leads are tight!
Mine displayed this on starting for over a year until battery finaly died - once Varta battery is replaced with another Varta - fault has never came up since.
HDC has never failed and has remained functioning throughout.
Air suspension faults would come up on their own if there is a fault but would not always sink to lowest setting - thankfully.

Mine comes up regular, Recent OE spec Battery. The message disappears in seconds and no Arrows to show a persistant fault. HDC works fine to.

Its just personality of the car.

When I wake up first thing I probably have similar issues, especially if its for an early turn 5.30am  2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS
