Which battery?

After 2 years my Unipart 110ah battery seems to have given up the ghost. Even after charging it doesn't seem to be charging back up again.

What would the best battery be for a 2002 V8? If I enter the reg number on a Alpha batteries website it suggests various ranging from £75-£115 and all 95ah.

As always all opinions welcomed before I make my decision.

I'm assuming I can't claim anything on the old battery as this was replaced by the AA for the previous owner? 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

Many on here recommend the 110Ah battery as it'll give you by far the largest electrical boost during winter. I cannot comment as it's something I have never done.

On my old '02 V8, I fitted a Bosch 95Ah battery and that worked perfectly. It was easier and quicker to fit (handy when doing the job one evening after work) and slotted in easily.

Many places stock batteries. EuroCarParts have a discount with FFRR but I sourced mine via a Bosch specialist stockist for about the same cost.

I do like Bosch batteries and fit them as replacements in all the vehicles I own. Si. <This is my name.

Bosch S5’s are starting to get a reputation for failing prematurely on all models of FFRR sir... There are plenty of threads on here covering it...

Loads of forum members changed them a few years ago including a handful of my regulars. Most of my regulars have had to replace them under warranty at least once and some have since changed brands too!

I personally would put a Gen JLR battery on (as thats what i always do with my own FF’s sir Thumbs Up

Hi gents thanks for the advice.

I must admit I always thought Bosch were extremely reliable but apparently not in some cases.

Craig with the GenJLR where do you buy these from and what AH would you recommend? I do agree with Bellini that the smaller ones are easier to fit in but it's really a case of what size is required. 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

Hi Andy,

Yes they do but they told me 4 years! Will check this out online.

Do you think 95/100AH would be sufficient? 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

I called Tanya batteries beforehand and they gave me some story about needing to know all my details before they could disclose the discount price which was £4! This took the price all in down from £90 to £86.

Just bought one from Alpha batteries and it seems like the same battery with same guarantee. Very helpful on the phone and all in price of £70 and unlike their competitor they didn't ask for everything before giving me the price.

Hopefully this battery will suffice. The only question I have now is where can I buy myself a decent reader to monitor the current? 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

Aren't the genuine JLR batteries made by Varta anyway, it says it on them? Varta and Bosch batteries all made in the same factory? The JLR batteries don't come with a 5 year warranty though do they? Only the standard 2 year parts warranty, so if a JLR battery fails at 3 years old that's ok buy a new one, but a Bosch S5 failing in 3 years would be premature as they're supposed to last 5 years. But you get a free replacement.

I think the 110Ah ones are fitted not for the extra cranking power, but for the extra equipment fitted. I suppose they envisage the TV being watched, or radio being played with the engine off. Powering all that entertainment system takes a fair bit of battery. Using the parking heater takes a fair bit of battery too.

The Petrol and Diesel models had the same 95Ah battery from the factory, with an option of a 110Ah.
