Full Beam Bulb Upgrade

Our 2006 SC has a 2012 facelift on it and when using full beam the bulb appears very yellow next to the xenon bulb for dipped beam.

Has anybody got any experience in a different bulb that doesn't appear as white?

I've been looking at the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited bulbs but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before taking the plunge.

Thanks

Fundamentally they are different bulb technologies. The night breakers will be as close as you can get in terms of whiteness, but if you want a match, then you will need to fit an hid kit.
HID are brighter, so a kit could offer more light, but, they take time to warm up to full brightness (upto 10 seconds depending sometimes longer) so if your driving habits involve full beam for sort periods before having to dip for on coming cars, then hid may not offer the best solution. Normal halogen bulbs reach full brightness almost instantly, so if you need that full light but for sorry periods, then normal bulbs like night breakers may be best. V8 or else ...

David, i have a Phillips HID kit in mine and they are ace Thumbs Up Take a couple of seconds to warm up BUT... My old halogens were as good as useless and i have the Bi Xenon function so have the full beam flaps in the headlamps that created 90% of the high beam power anyhow! So i feel i haven’t lost anything whilst the new HID’s warm up... Now with the Phillips HID kit fitted the full beam is 2 or 3 times brighter Thumbs Up

So a win win situation as far as I’m concerned Very Happy

You wouldn't have a link to the kit you bought would you, Craig?

I wondered about an HID kit but a lot of people don't seem to approve of them. I guess the FF suspension self levels and there's headlight washers there so they won't be illegal.

Thanks guys. Thumbs Up

I am about to try out the Osram nightbreaker plus on my Audi (headlights like a couple of tealights Shocked ) and also bought a pair for the FFRR too. If you can wait a few days I'll let you know... .

Another vote for an HID kit with bi-xenons already fitted although mine is only a cheap set. Even when cold they produce as much light as the halogens and if dipped for only short periods then they restart at almost full brightness. The HID globe locating tabs need to be bent slightly to raise the beam otherwise there's too much light just in front as the halogens have to aim close to be of any use.

Those night breakers in the Disco look to be just the ticket for what I want.

We've just bought a set of xenon lights for the FL as well so I'll stick a set of those in the high beam too.

Joe, I won't have done anything in the next couple of days so look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I changed the headlights on the Freelander today from Halogen to Xenon and put a set of Night Breaker Ultimates in it. They're on offer in Euro Car Parts at the moment for £17.99 instead of £35 for two H7's and if you use discount code BOX-5 you get an extra quid off.

The new bulb is much whiter and is a good match for the whiteness of the Xenon in the Freelander so I'm going to order two more H7's to do the FF with as well.

Fingers crossed it'll do just as good a job in that too. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice guys.

Fitted the H7's to my Audi and FFRR today. Damn it if the headlight bulbs on the Audi were H9's so they will have to wait for another day!

The Osram's are definitely brighter but not whiter or as white as the Xenons on the Rangie (only a short test in daylight, so maybe need them on for longer at night?), but much better than the stock bulbs that were in the Audi.

Also very please with my restoration job on the Audi polycarbonate headlights, which were very cloudy:

400 W&D, then 800, then 1200, then 2000. Followed by yellow pad and Malco Rejuvenator, then Black pad and Meguiars Polish. Now clear as a bell. Thanks LR for fitting glass Wink

Also much. much easier to remove headlights on the Audi than on the FFRR Rolling Eyes .
