Td V8 3.6 transmission fluid change approaching

Time to ditch the old fluid and renew filter. However, should I go with the original factory fitting, i.e. the plastic sump or refit using the metal sump with the separate filter thats being offered as an alternative now ?

Dave the metal option is for other models (Discovery 3) as there is a chassis member that makes refitting of a plastic sump impossible without disconnecting/lifting the engine (lots of work!)

Replace your filter/sump with a JLR plastic one sir Thumbs Up

Well if it doesn't involve loosening engine mounts and removing the exhaust, then thats the way I'll go.

I am thinking of having this done, nothing wrong with the box, the truck has done 100,000 and it must be due.

Is it a big job - what should I be paying 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE

its not so much a big job as a messy one ! The fluid removal should just be a case of draining but theres always that bit in the pan that catches you out when you remove the last bolt.

Well today was the day. I'd like to shake the designer ( I use the term loosely ) who came up with the idea of such a poorly placed filling hole , warmly by the throat. Your University education was completely wasted you ladies part.
Trying to pump the cat pee smelling transmission fluid in to such a poorly placed filling orifice will always result in some of it going down your arm or all over the garage floor.

At least I can report that the whole exercise only cost me £168 quid, my mate with the ramp's mum provide tea and biccies whilst I laboured away and the gear change does feel smoother.

Next time pop down to B&Q and get a pressurised garden sprayer for £25.

I was dubious about their effectiveness but tried it and works superbly. Pump it up, insert into hole, pull trigger and watch it all flow in. Ed

MD did mine for £95 labour. I supplied the bits sourced from Dan. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
