Been meaning to get this done since I got the car about 5 months ago now, but finally got a couple of days spare to give it the once over.

Treated her to a full paint correction to remove some scratches and swirls, due to time constraints no before photos, but got a few afters. (sorry for pics, only had my phone to take some with)

Only the paint done in this episode, wheels and arches still to do but Ill get round to that eventually lol.

Hi Jord.

First full snow foam, rinse and then snow foam wash. All.shuts and engine bay cleaned. Full rinse with filtered water.

Full body tar removal using tardis, then quick rinse followed by full body clay using bilt hamber blue clay. Then onto the cutting. For mine I used menzerna 400 on a high cut pad (lake county) then refined with menzerna 2800 on refining pad, again lake county pad.

Then onto the polishing stage. For this I made my own little concoction, I used 2 parts autoglym srp and 1 part poor boy black hole. This was applied using a DA on a blue finishing pad. The srp is a great Polish thats very underated, and combined with the black hole left a lovely deep shine and wet look to the paint.

Finally, topped off with 2 coats of swissvax best of show, applied by hand and allowed to cure for 20 mins per panel.

All plastics cleaned and protected with 303 aerospace protectant.

Once I had finished gave it a quick wipe down with zaino z3

Usually, I would clean wheels with bilberry, tar remove & clay, then my first choice for wheel protection is collinite 476s. Absoulte pita to work with because is goes so hard, but worth the effort as it protects for a good 4-6 months. Tyres I usually dress with swissvax pneu.

Looks fantasic - well worth the efort.

What does DA mean?

Dual Action... Mostly used for sanding... the pad goes round and round but can stop rotating when you apply pressure and the pad oscillates as well....  Pete

As said, DA is a dual action polisher. The dual action is rotary combined with oscillations. The other type is a rotary, which as it suggests is just a rotary action.

In real terms, as DA will be less likely to do any damage (paint burn through) as it creates less heat in the cutting stages. A rotary if used incorrectly can go through clear coat in about 5 seconds if held on same spot for too long, a DA Would take ages in comparison.

I personally use a rotary for any cutting/compouding and then switch to a DA For any polishing work.

That being said, a DA is more than capable of cutting with the right pad/compound, just it will take a bit longer and require higher spin speeds to achieve a reasonable amount of cutting.

I'm really interested in having a go machine polishing my Range Rover but always been worried about introducing more swirls than I fix.

Can I ask how many cutting and polishing pads did you use to do the whole car? How long roughly did it take to do each stage on a panel? Do you use a paint depth gauge before starting? And finally what DA machine do you use?

Sorry for the barrage of questions

Is that pic before or after you sanded down you whole car Pete? I seem to recall seeing you had taken to it with some wet and dry last year.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There are over 700 how to videos on paint correction / car detailing etc. The videos are excellent and very instructional. I spent quite a lot of time reviewing the correction and polishing video's before embarking on it on my own car.

Their products are available in the UK, but you can use any other manufacturers products, as what they show you are the basic principles so you can replicate.

I found it all amazingly helpful and would thoroughly recommend their channel to anyone who doesn't really know about or understand car detailing etc.

I flatted the car with 2500 grit about a year ago, then hit it with G3 on a hard pad, then resin polish to fill in the swirls, only spent about 3 hours on the whole FF... it did look nice for a while... above photo is recent, it's had some abuse this last year....
