Right had another look. I can get some sporadic movement and control with the auto button. I reckon once you open unit the cogs can become misaligned resulting in no action when turning the auto button. I have left it for today for fear of doing further damage. I think the only fix is a replacement panel or so I hope. The aircon works as it should in anycase so can put up with it for another while. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

I switched my heater control unit over for a newer one and for a few minutes it did some strange things like flash the air con button without doing anything, but after restarting the car it seemed to work as the old one did, even with the different layout. It might be a BCU thing causing issues with the others.

Daveo please disregard my last question as i found in ebay the continental heating panels with quite ok prices and believe out of 5 knobs they have i will manage to safely remove at least one ring .

looking at you 2010+ panel this is not the right panel for the upgrade, the one you are looking for is 2006-2010
