Having got a set of wheels with TPMS from Duckworth, very good value for money, and today having the tyres swapped over for winters, when I take my old wheels off and put these on will the car automatically pick up on the new TPMS valves or do I have to do something? letters not necessarily in the right order

They certainly always used to.

One thing to look out for is that IIRC they changed the sensors sometime a year or so ago - I recall seeing a posting by Craig along those lines - so hopefully the new ones are compatible with your car.

I messed up when I changed wheels and tires and the sensors didn't go back in their original position .
Iirc , I had to pump all 5 tires to 44psi and drive on the motorway for 20 mins or so to reset everything.

Worth reading the owners manual as I believe it mentions something like this , as sensor position would obviously change if you had a puncture and put the spare on ...

I know nothing about the sensor changes as I'm in California and ours are different to U.K. Ones for some reason ...

I assume your car already has TPMS ? If not, then it's a lot of work and expense as there are receivers in each wheel arch.

You should just be able to fit the wheels and go for a run - the car should recognise them - there isn't anything else to do to 'program' them.

How old are the wheels ? I think LR changed the system a year or so ago. Early L405 wheels are compatible with L322's but I'm not sure about later ones.

I bought wheels from Dan with TPMS - it is *plug n play*  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

Thanks guys I think my question is answered, the car doesn't have TPMS the new wheels do, but it sounds like a big job to upgrade the car so I'll not be bothering with that, just continue using trusty three quid pressure gauge from China and I'll also get my suspected slow puncture fixed.

If you get the chance, I would remove the TPMS valves.

1) They have tendency to corrode - and ultimately snap.

2) they also have some residual 2nd hand value

But mainly #1 - you're better off with bog standard rubber valves

Afaik , over here they all had tpms fitted stock .

After the firestone/Ford fiasco they made it law that all new cars must have tpms after a certain future date , with cash incentives given to manufacturers to install systems early .

This was around the time of the l322 introduction so they all have it .

Maybe this is why Usa market cars have different sensors to row cars ?

We also get a stupidly high recommended tire pressure too .

I run Mercedes gl450 pressures as I use their 275 tires , and that similar to U.K. Pressures .

My L405 doesn't have it

To be honest , tpms is a pain .
My light is constantly glowing orange .
I've got used to it , but it needs to be off so the check engine light grabs your attention when it comes on !!!

It's a real basic system that only activates a light on differential , whereas my Carrera from the same era has a screen showing individual tire pressures LIVE .

EDIT: I've just answered my own question I think, the 20" wheels just have standard rubber valves so I'm guessing I don't have it! Problem solved, and money wasted on sensors! Will eBay them when I change the tyres.

Can anyone tell me how to check if my car has TPMS?

it's a '12 plate L322.

I switched the wheels over to brand new 19s with brand new sensors from land rover but didn't get any error messages or anything after I had changed them.

I have recently changed back to the 20"s to try and diagnose a slight droning noise as the 20" are road tyres.

Both times I have switched the wheels, no errors have shown up.

So either I don't have them and have wasted money on the sensors or it instantly recognised the new sensors and didn't show any errors - I think I know which is more likely though!


Also when I had the tracking done the guy said the tyre pressures were all over the place as I'd just bought it and not checked anything. This hadn't thrown up any errors and the front left was 28psi and rear right 38psi!

How can I check - completely deflate one of my tyres and drive across my lawn?

On the VIN info on Topix there is no mention of TMPS in the build spec.

Easy to check.On the same page on your screen where you check the oil level is the option under TPMS to set for "light load"or "heavy load".When I start my car it shows a warning that TPMS is set for light load.
I will not use my RR without TPMS.It has already saved on tyre!!Had a after market set fitted to my D3 and it saved 6 tyres over a 6year period.In our part of the world it is better to have them.
