So anyone following me will know I had gearbox issues last year when I bought the car - thankfully it had had a rebuild 10k before so wasn’t that and it turned out it just needs a service a new rad and a new gearbox Cooler and she’s been good as Gold since.
Now I live in the fens we don’t have any hills etc and for the first time in ages I’ve take here to Devon - now obviously over Dartmoor etc it’s quite hilly and I’ve noticed That when I let off the accelerator st speed and coast down a hill it’s fine but if I break and am still carrying some speed and trying to come to a standstill I get the whole car jolt - any ideas?[/i] Current stable:

Also should add it idles very low 450-550 rpm max bit not lumpy seems to be ok - can this be increased? Current stable:

It will idle that low if the air con is off -should be c.700 with aircon on.

Ok I always turn it off in this weather - is it more likely to jolt with it off? Current stable:

Since I have owned mine I been trying to find the slack in my drivetrain.
If I accelerate normally, let the throttle off and then put it back on I get a bang or a clunk from underneath, it is play in the drivetrain but never managed to trace it.
I think on the later models it was eliminated by an engine and transmission ECU update.
If I have my air con on the revs don’t drop so much and I get less engine braking and so less backlash in the drivetrain.
There may be an ECU update that cures it but I’ve never tried it and there are companies that offer both engine and transmission updates for the M62.
I believe your idle without air con should be 600 rpm.
If you have a MAF problem or air leak the revs might drop lower.
I changed my MAF, rebuilt transfer box, outer front cv joints, none of which made any difference...

Hmm I had more issues initially when I got it and put it down to incorrect oil and blocked oil cooler - a google states this could be eas linked which isn’t right currently or a water pump on its way out...

Your problem could be different to what I’m describing , there is also a transmission fault that I’ve heard of but can’t remember what caused it but I’ll havd a dig later

I think holidaychicken has hit the nail on the head with his drivetrain slack. If not that, then could be a brake issue if it only happens when you try to come to a fast halt. Otherwise could be a clunky gearbox change down which would need to be reset with a software input?

Ran with the ac on today and this made a massive difference wondering if running on lpg makes it idle a little lower than it should Current stable:

Running on LPG should make no difference to the idle speed. Suggest you get a service on the LPG if that is making such a difference.

I still go with her software upgrade or drivetrain. You haven't said if it only happens when u brake .... in which case it is obviously ......

Hi - I used to get harsh pull aways 1-2gear but a flush and all new gear cooling stuff fixed that nicely I thought all was well until these steep declines and it only happens if you brake hard and roll a bit it’s like 2-1 gear almost and it does feel almost like a near stall and start. Mine is an 02 so if it’s not been updated chances are it’s original - anyone had the firmware done in the l322? Current stable:
