Mine used to lose a bit, but it had a leak on a turbo and a drip from the dipstick bott connector. Now they are fixed it hasn’t used a drop in 3000 miles. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Greg, I used to go between 12k and 16k between services - yes used a tiny bit of oil (as all cars do and if anyone tells you any different they are lying). But I never needed to top up, I.e. The oil used was so minimal it didn't need topping up between services. I / the main agent used the advocated Shell Helix 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thanks again chaps.

Mine has had the oil cooler housing replaced by a main dealer before I bought the car. I think that should mean I'm ok for oil-in-the-coolant problem. Right?

Getting under the car, I've got oil under the engine, around the sump tray and bell housing area. But I think this could be due to the above, previous oil leak and not being cleaned up.

I've done the o-ring to the turbo oil pipe, although it was all very clean back there.

So I've been checking the oil monthly until I can get it up a ramp and degrease the whole bottom half.

I am doing a DPF regen every month at the moment (due to my short run driving pattern) which clears very quickly at the std 50mph. But I understand the regen can burn oil . Not too sure why. So could be that.

. Cheers, Greg

^Check engine fault codes^ there maybe a manifold temp probe gone which over fuels the car and fills the DPF 10X quicker than normal... Thumbs Up

Greg,
Regular DPF regens will dilute the oil due to excess fuel being injected during the process.
Hence the contaminated oil should be changed more regularly, but the service indicator is suppose to be clever enough to know when an oil change is required.
I would have thought that this would show up as an increase in oil level though, not low level?

Ok so last Saturday as you can read above I'm getting low oil, top up 0.5 litres. Ordered some from Opie, which came Wednesday then today found 5 mins and after a drive and dinner, went back out to the car (whilst still warm), expecting to glug in a third or a half litre - only to find this?????

That's a two notch variation.

All checks were on level ground too. WTH???

Cheers Nino, yes have done.

Thinking the name of this topic needs to change to fluctuating oil level readings though.

So weird.

So if I ignore last week's low reading, my monthly oil readings are consistent and so then I'm less worried about an il leak.

I still need to get it on a ramp and do a big clean and degrease.

Cheers guys.

the 4.4 tdv8 has to have the oil at working temperature and then left for 15 minutes before you check it ...[from owners manual] ... - .- -.

Smile Smile

The system won't let you check it cold, it just says 'unavailable'. At least on mine.

Both times a week ago, then yesterday it was consistently 45 mins from stopping the engine, on level ground.

Just a strange anomaly.

Yes Mike, bring back the dipstick, definitely!

. Cheers, Greg

I like the Waitrose carpark myself!

Overheard in Waitrose:
"Waitrose have sold out of my favourite Duchy of Cornwall Zesty Lemon Curd so don't talk to me about your f****g problems!"

Google: Overheard in Waitrose for more, bloody hilarious Very Happy Very Happy
