2012 L322 LHD Headlights

Hi Dan,

Can you provide a price for a set of LHD / European headlights for a 2012 L322 - standard Xenons?

I’m looking to register my RHD car in Spain and the lights will need changing to LHD spec.

Thanks

Isn’t there a mechanical lever behind the rear dome on each headlight to switch it to LHD countries?

Each headlamp unit has a mechanical lever which simply 'flattens' the beam so you don't dazzle oncoming traffic - which is what I'm currently doing.

In order to be matriculated in Spain and to pass its ITV (MOT) the lights need to 'throw' the pattern up to the right-hand side which flattening or levelling off won't do hence a fail and new lamps needed Sad

try putting it through the test first with the lever flattening the beam and the lamps adjusted to point more towards the right.

most have managed to get a pass without the expense of changing the headlights.

I'm going through the same scenario in portugal in a few weeks time

good luck

Thanks, Dingg1 - certainly worth the cost of the test vs €sss on new lights.

I had a quote for importing/registering the car this morning....€4200ish before any lights....ouch. I think at that cost I'll just run her home every 6 months instead and hit the reset on the time allowed in the country, get her serviced and at the same time stock up on HP sauce and Paxo!

is that cost using an agent?

cost here is about 800e using an agent to grease the wheels as it were , diy with all the form filling to do cost about 300e for fees inc declaration, test (mot) etc

got to get a sworn declaration from the embassy to start the process off though.

Yes, using an agent - their fee is about €600, the rest is the tax on the value of the car + Co2 emissions.

You can do it DIY but there is so much red-tape and bureaucracy most people balls-it-up.

Even our 15-year-old Volvo cost €1200 to matriculate.

The road is very reasonable, less than half that of the UK.

Its the initial import tax that's the killer.

Thanks, Dan, inclined to agree with you - simply not worth the cost. All to essentially have a different number plate!

Hi, I'd love my to pass its matriculation but my mechanic advised the lights don't 'throw up' enough light, you can see how flat they are with the Tourist mode enabled. Well done though!

It’s a dead easy (and toll free) trip down from Alicante to Faro.
Might be an alternative solution to re- register it in Portugal and visit when the annual “MOT” is due ? G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
