Crackly bluetooth phone - 2010 L322

Hi all,
Recently bought a 2010 Facelift TDV8 and the bluetooth is very crackly when on the phone. Audio system otherwise crackle free and sounds great!

Any ideas?

May be worth putting the phone in the boot and see if it is still crackling.

Interference can be an issue it seems. If not, then it can be a failing module. 2011 Stornaway Grey 5.0SC Autobiography

Thanks I'll give that a try.

I recall a similar issue with a faulty unit in my 2004 TD6 and LR did an exchange unit. Do you know if they still offer such a thing?

What sort of thing could cause interference here? I've got same symptoms - phone audio is crackling when in the front but fine when I sit in the boot. Makes driving a real PITA from back there though Laughing

There is a Tracker (as in the brand name) hard wired into the car quite near the BT module - not mine, it was there when I bought it. I'm thinking of finding an auto electrician to remove it, just wondering if that might related? Not even sure GPS and BT are anywhere near each other on the frequency spectrum..? 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

As my Bluetooth unit started to fail I had the same issue. It wasn’t until it failed completely I opened it up (really easy) and saw corrosion on the PCB. I used a tooth brush and contact cleaner from Halfords thinking it was broken anyway and then it worked faultlessly. Not promising anything but worth a look.

Here a picture of the PCB in my Bluetooth unit before I cleaned it, I didn’t take one afterward sorry, I guessed the corrosion was causing some of my interference then failure

Cheers Fin, that's really helpful - I'll take a look at this on mine tomorrow and report findings.

Had the old tracker unit removed, no difference in BT call quality. Didn't think it would be that TBH but worth a shot. Interestingly, was using the phone the other day and apologised to the caller for the poor quality - they said it was fine their end so it must just be on the output of the call into the speakers that the problem lies. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Mine has the crackly call quality too but also a bit of a lucky dip as to whether it connects at all. Similarly, sometimes the name of caller displays on the screen when I receive a call and sometimes just their number (I.e. from a known ‘stored’ caller). The call list is very hit and miss too!

Other than that, it works absolutely perfectly 🤪

Apologies for reviving a slightly older thread, but just on the off-chance this helps someone.

My previously crackly bluetooth seems to have resolved itself. Got a call today and it was crystal clear, no sign of any crackle throughout a roughly 5 minute call. Only thing I can think of is a iOS update on the phone - the car has had no updates or work done in recent past (apart from replacing a split hose) so it must be the phone. It's iOS 12.2 on a iPhone 8+.

So if you're not running iOS 12.2 and have a problem with poor bluetooth in the car, might be worth an iOS update. 09 RR Westminster 3.6TDV8 - Stornoway Grey / Black interior - now gone (sad face)

Thanks for the advices. Can anyone tell me where I can find the Bluetooth module on my 2011 L322?
