I go skiing and also drive to north Poland sometimes and its -30c my trick is, I put 10L of petrol into a full tank of diesel and I've never had an issue with fuel flowing freely. Also works just fine in the fuel burning heater. Thumbs Up

It doesn't affect the engine at all, it's been perfectly harmless.

i think the tank is 89 litres on the L405 so you fill up 79 litres and then 10 litres ?

I'm sure my tank is bigger than that... maybe 90L

I usually (from empty) put shel V power petrol 10L and then fill the tank to the top with diesel.

My 10p bet says its not freezing fuel!

JLR have better fuel management then most and if other cars around you are working then "hmmm i doubt it will be that"

Wow — an old thread

It wasn’t the fuel - I filled up at the base of the mountain and put an additive in.

It has never happened since, but was something frozen on the air intake

I know it's an old thread, but I learned something today related to this. Chatting to a guy who does the off road landrover experience at rockingham, he says the intake has a complex valve system designed to divert to alternative air the moment resistance from wading water is detected. In cold temperatures sometimes these valves get stuck and wont open, meaning when you start the engine your running on residual air in the pipes, you then choke the engine, it dies, then the sucked in rubber hoses de-compress after a few minutes and your able to start again, and the same happens....

I'd love a diagram of the SDV8 intake system I know it can wade 900mm and I've seen the top side of the intake but not the complex valve system. Apparently an item to lube with silicone spray.

Any one else heard of this? Question

Interestingly I think I will blank off my EGR given it's so accessible at the top. After cleaning the MAP sensor the other day I noticed the intake is full of carbon and soot Shocked
