Removing the shield to replace the inlet manifold. I'm stuck

Hi all. After realising that the manifold can't be patched up I have a new one and am in the process of fitting it. However, I can't get the metal shield bottom bolts undone due to the abs module blocking the room.

My question is has anyone got any tips on how to do this? Can I just disconnect the brake lines from the module and take it out or will that mean a load of brake trouble later? Any help would be appreciated.

I've included a picture so you can see my predicament

See the wiki for egr replacement, you will need some extensions and universals .

Thanks Joe90 I've been following that post but that car is a left hand drive so the abs module is on the other side and more out of the way. You can't even see the final stud with the module in the way on the right hand drive car so can't even get a long extension socket in there. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

What about from below, with a "sighter" in the engine bay guiding you ?

or undo the mounting bolts on the ABS module, would that give you any wiggle room ? .

Sorry can’t help with this one as I haven’t done mine yet but just a heads up for when you get a bit further, a well respected local Landrover mechanic has told me that removing and replacing the rear injector requires a bit of not so gentle modification to the bulkhead and even then usually needs a new injector.
I’m leaning more towards letting him do the job as it looks a bit more of a pain than I first thought.

Does sound like a real pain if that's the case. Replacing the injector is going to add some big cost to the job though as they aren't cheap either. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Well I'm stuck. After loosing most of my tools and the nuts from the shield down in the engine bay it's all back together now to let someone else have a go. I can't seem to get to the last bolt and wondered how on earth I would ever get them back on anyway as that would seem impossible!

The advice I got over on Facebook was to avoid cutting the body as it's totally unnecessary and just raise the engine too for the tricky injector which is easily dooable if you could just get the shield off! Big Cry Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Your experience has just convinced me to pay a professional to do mine for a few reasons,
1, I could be wrong but I reckon a phrase like "lift the engine to get the injector out then back in" is something that will be a lot harder than it sounds.
2, The estimate of 8hrs from someone who has done a few, has the right kit and knows what he is doing will translate to 2 or 3 days for me to do it.
3, He MIGHT need to replace an injector means I WILL need to replace an injector so that's probably £300 towards the labour cost.
As I get older I'm getting better at finding reasons to let someone else do the awkward jobs!

Sounds like fair logic. The local indie to me is 10 miles away and it' might be a risk driving it there. I'm going to try mobile mechanic options or local garages but they may not have the knowledge to do it so I'm not sure how I will resolve it at this stage. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Well I decided to have another go at the allusive hidden bolt today and finally got it out. Then manger to wrestle the shield out afterwards.

This leaves a predicament. Do I go for it and remove 3 injectors jack the engine up for the 4 get the manifold off and reverse or still get a garage to do it Question

The access is ok now for bolts etc so inclined to go for it but if goes wrong I really am then stuck! Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Well progress has been made and I am now in the position where injectors out I will be able to remove the manifold. I've attached some progress photos for effect.

Has anyone got any tips to remove the injectors?

Plan is to remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail side and remove nuts from injectors and pull out this way! Except injector 4 which would be split at the top removing solenoid to gain access. Is this right or way off? Also how do I get the fuel pipe off the injectors? There seems to be a tiny pin holding them in but can't seem to remove it. Pic below of the line

How, in the end, did you access and remove the elusive shield bolt?
(This might be helpful to others....) .

In the end it was a case of long extension bars on a 1/4 ratchet with a woblle end on it and threaded it through the pipes from by the abs module before the ac pipes with a strong light from underneath to see the bolt.

I managed to move the ac pipes back using a bungee cord to give more room and then the pipes lower down with one hand and like a heart surgeon get the socket on the screw. It's very tight in there and fiddly and took me a fair few goes loosing the socket head into the engine bay so under trays off is a must.

Getting the shield out was as hard but needed or remove the right angle hose at the front of the engine and wiggle it about a lot and it eventually came out with a bit of force bit no so much I bust an ac or brake pipe! Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
