Had the beast (td6 2002) in the mechanics after which I was informed I'm going to need a new engine subframe due to corrosion. Anyone have an idea about part numbers or where best to source this?

Anyone experience in changing this part?

Are you sure, in the salty UK these can look very corroded but actually ok, it’s normally surface scale and when cleaned off very little wall loss is found. The tubing is very thick walled.

I'm just going on what the mechanic told me! He said it would fail the MOT based on corrosion. I might let it fail and then replace

Get under there and get it scraped and make up your own mind.
Probably not much wrong after a good going over with a scraper and a bit of rust killer on it.

Put it extended mode, scraper and rust killer?

+ axle stands.

I would suggest a wire brush, some cure rust then smooth rite paint

When I bought my TD6, the garage had to sort the subframe. Ended up on a ramp with steering off etc and engine supported, whilst it was sent off for clean up and powder coating.

Was advised on previous MOT, so I said I wasn’t buying without it sorted.

This is common they are rust buckets.

I just sold my 02 to a breaker as it had started to go, the rear subframe would t pass the next mot and the sills has gone too - please check these before investing too much!

I’m talking you could poke holes in some bits (my arches were like his too)

Ironically it always had a slow oils leak which kept coming back so my front subframe was like new just oily  Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

I had the subrame sandblasted and re-coated, I just have to install it

I have yesterday build out the subframe , it´s not so easy , I have a heavy rust cleaner the first two days spray every day

and this little part, the exhauster from the heather is the mistake , it is too short , 5 cm longer and I have not must change the subframe
