Rear dash cam - Garmin Mini - an experiment

Going to experiment rigging up a small, discrete upper tailgate mounted, rear facing dash cam....

On its way....Garmin Dash Cam Mini Key-Sized Dash Camera with 140-degree Wide-angle Lens and Recording in 1080p HD Video https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RB4WKSC/ref...cEbXXWSACC

Short term, will power from boot cigarette lighter that is ignition live.

Long term, will wire into an ignition live rear fuse box ...if it exists.... Whistle

Any advice welcomed Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

open the offside panel, stick your hand behind the socket and depress the metal bits and push/pull/wiggle the socket out..you then have the wires exposed and then tap into the wires.. ... - .- -.

Camera is rigged temporarily onto upper tailgate and recording nicely. Need to reposition and maybe buy the polarising filter to reduce glare. Cable routing is work in progress but currently runs along top of C pillar trim, along bottom of window, across into boot, down one side, under rubber mat and up the other side into ciggy lighter. Done like this as camera needs to be in sweep of wiper blade. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Yes. Interact and download via the app. It looked Censored in the back window so moved it to my Classic instead. Nice little compact camera for sure Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I've got a rear cam but I didn't want to see it so I fixed it bottom left in the rear tailgate glass, positioned so in my rear view it's hidden by rear seat headrest. Just didn't want to spoil the rear view.

Cable is 100% hidden, runs behind the tailgate plastic trim, through the original rubber boot / gator then under the headliner and down the pillar eventually to the centre console where I have a USB power hub thing.

Same cam on front, they are from Amazon so I guess Chinese 1080p, 170 degree view with a micro SD card. Seem good enough as sentries. Cost around £55 each.

What I would like is the cams running constantly i.e. after I lock the car and overnight but have not ben successful with power supply.

I noticed Charles89 says he runs his for days off the main battery.

.

. Cheers, Greg

You can now get stand alone power packs to do exactly that Greg Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

So I bought a 'pass through' power pack that can be left charging and run power at the same time.

So this runs the 2 camera for a good few hours...
But my short commute doesn't last long enough to charge the power pack to full.
Once I get to work then I leave the car all day again. The power pack, only now on around d 20% drains out quickly and so I haven't found the right solution yet.

Any tips?

. Cheers, Greg

I tried two different USB power packs that support 'pass through' charging
(which is charge and draw at he same time).

Like the idea of solar. Thumbs Up
