SAT Nav

Want to upgrade the head unit on my L322 to have sat nav, telephone, reversing camera and if possible a venture cam. The easiest solution would be to fit an after market unit however I would like to keep the steering and suspension geometry screen.
Can I fir a 2009-2012 head unit to a 2004 car and retain all the functions of the old and of the new unit? Current cars

Afraid not. Your car uses BMW electronics and the later touch screen units are based on the Ford fibre system called MOST.

Your best bet is to fit an aftermarket system with screen etc....and look for an interface so the steering wheel buttons work.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something somewhere.

And if it’s any help, the sat nav in mine is horrendous. Much prefer my 2005 Tom Tom....

As above - totally incompatible systems.

It is possible to fit a reversing camera - I did it may years ago using BMW bits, but it's expensive and unlikely to be worthwhile IMHO. IIRC I had to replace the CD unit and then add additional components - but may have been something else - it cost me something like £500 in total.

Similar money to allow me to connect an iPod as an aux input.

Any satnav >5 years old isnt really worth having - Waze on your phone is way better than anything else

For the L322's with BMW infotainment all that is required is ;

NTSC Camera (no more than £50 - you only really need to see if something is there - not broadcast quality).
2 x standard 12v relays.
A few bits of cable/grommets/tiewraps.
& that's that - no expensive interface required - just the ability to make a couple of foddly connections in the boot. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

I assume that as you have a 2004 HSE, there is no existing screen. To fit the Vogue system really wouldn't be worthwhile. The Vogue screen is pretty ordinary - you're looking at a system that's close on 20 years old.

I added Bluetooth to mine (after the 2G networks closed in Australia and the in-built phone became useless). I also added a reversing camera,

If you don't already have the backbone system (screen, GPS system, etc.), I think you should look at an aftermarket system.

You said "I would like to keep the steering and suspension geometry screen." Where is that? My 2003 model doesn't have it. Ron B. VK2OTC

Check this site, that's what I had done to my 2004 FF, there is also a Facebook site.
In my opinion is this the best way to go with the BMW system and lucky you, you have no DSP therefore its almost hassle-free.
At the end it looks like this:

Yes it is the HSE but I suspect the origonal owner upgraded the entertainment system as I do have a phone in the centre console and a full screen but no sat nav Current cars

Probably, to a point.

I fitted Bluetooth and digital tv, and dvd based sat nav from later BMW’s but I’m not sure when their systems changed. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Relay 1 to provide a switched negative to pin 17 on the blue plug on the TV module.
Relay 2 to provide a switched positive to the camera.
Both relay coils connected to the reversing lights.

Co-ax from the camera centre core to pin 13 on the white plug on the TV module. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

So this takes the standard 2004 head unit and allows a reversing camera to be incorporated? Current cars

Yes, it’s all done in the boot mate. It’s just a screen at the front.

I’ve never done it, but I think it’s just a switched AUX feed to the system.

Plenty of folk on here have done it, and are more knowledgeable than me. Sounds like Brian has past experience.
