Hi Stan GVIF is the Sony protocol used by ford - bus is the pre ford protocol I believe.

But you raise a point do the 06+ and 10+ use the same gvif protocol? as there seems to be only one unit.

Email below is what I received:

Price would be £800.00

2 weeks delivery time

If anyone’s feeling brave this may be worth a punt. The toyota denso system is pretty much the same as ours (gvif)

On another website another module claims cross compatibility so just thinking this may be worth a punt

Found another option. Android Auto or Apple Carplay for the 2010MY is offered here :

https://www.naviplus.com.au/online-store/R...p157308347

Have contacted them and I have been told that it should not be a problem. Apparently Jaguar XKs and facelifted Range Rover Sports L320 have a similar system to ours?

https://www.facebook.com/pg/OldJaguarLive/...e_internal

Let me see if I can find out anything else about it.

No news regarding the Russian system yet? Instagram @l322passion

Australia 2012 Range Rover Vogue 5.0 SC V8 Fuji White

Hi All,

Just a heads up. My 2011 V8SC with dual screen is in at Naviplus today and tomorrow to have this upgrade done. I am lucky that they are located only about 30min from my home. I wanted a solution that retained the standard functionality but can also run Apple carplay. I'll report back on the results when I get the car back if anyone is interested in this solution.

Regards
Frans

Very interested, hope it goes well. Will be interested if it’s carplay wireless as having to plug the phone in would be a pita

They indicated that a bluetooth version is available but they are working through some issues with it. I preferred a wired solution however, given that with bluetooth it is always a hassle in the car when different people (Kids) want to play music at various times and we have to switch over BT connection all the time. Not a problem if you are the sole user of the vehicle. That and the fact that i'm expecting less hassles with a wired option. Also, the current BT connection via (Bovee) still remains so i can still have a master music connection always on, just not via Apple Carplay.

Well, I can report back that we achieved success. I can thoroughly recommend Tim and crew at Naviplus. The final product is very professional and works better than I expected. They were very helpful and friendly and communicated well throughout the process.

I dropped the car off on Wednesday and by Wednesday afternoon Tim called me to say the hardware is fitted and works, but not having worked with the gen 2 system especially with dual screen before, differences in the Canbus SW meant they had to spend more time trying to find a new way of activating carplay. On other versions it is activated by pressing and holding the Navigation button until it switches over. The fallback plan for mine was to install a little switch somewhere that i could push to switch over to carplay. Tim asked if he could have another day to play with it to see if they could find a way around the canbus issue without having to drill a hole for another switch. By Friday morning I was told the car is ready.

By pressing and holding the call cancel button on the steering wheel I now switch between old and new systems and the Carplay works flawlessly and boy does it ever bring the car into the 21st century! Using Siri works perfectly so no more frustrating navigation system. Spotify, aplle music all works great and everything looks so much more modern. If nothing else, I would recommend this as a safety feature too, as there is much less fiddling with the phone while driving.

There is a bluetooth option, but still in refinement and somewhat more expensive. As stated before i opted for the wired option just to keep things simple and reliable. The system response also seems faster with wired. They installed a dedicated USB port in the center cubby, so it doesn't look out of place or aftermarket at all.

Total cost was AUD$1350 but it included AUD$250 for fitting. in USD it would be about $740 before shipping and fitting. Not the cheapest option perhaps, but certainly one that preserves everything you want to preserve in the original setup whilst seamlessly bringing the car into the current decade.

Naviplus will ship as a kit and with their newfound knowledge re the Generation 2 system they ought to be able to provide lots of advice for DIY fitting.

I didn't take pictures because it looks like any other carplay! Happy to do a pic if you want. Hope this helps!

Regards

Frans

Sorry no, i dont have an Android phone in the household, but when booting up it shows a choice between Carplay or Android. I suspect it would work just as well.

It looks identical to the Navtool offering. If it is the same, I use my iPhone in the car. I tried to use a Samsung Tab but it didn't appear on the screen.

When you first get the unit (again if same as Navtool) you have to install the firmware which shows for either CarPlay or Android Auto. I am pretty sure if I had reloaded the firmware for Android Auto it would have worked with the Samsung.

I didn't try as it meant taking the unit out and connecting it to the internet which was too much of a faff as it was the iPhone I was using mainly.

Hope that helps. John
