The original harness has a habit of migrating oil from the sump into the primary turbo's electronics, often if not always requiring a new turbo as well as the harness being replaced with the later design.
I'd like to know what the campaign notice states.

Thanks for the replies - wonder if it’s coincidence that there are campaigns under N375 and N357! Slip of the keyboard on someone’s part at LR perhaps or maybe fluke. 2016 SDV8 AB

Didn't Red Merle have this issue?

Mikey - unless you typed out the whole note I don’t think it was fat fingers - it genuinely looks like two separate references from Topix with digits switched Rolling with laughter 2016 SDV8 AB

Thanks Mikey. I had wondered if opening the covering of the original wiring would do the trick or whether the oil was migrating under the insulation. The addition of a short harness that allows oil to escape would be quick and easy to fit. I wonder what mess the escaping oil might create over time but perhaps its so little to be insignificant.

Spotted that on Topix on mine couple of days ago. Unfortunately not much we can do about it at the moment. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

At least there's an alternative fix to removing the sump to replace the internal wiring harness.

I have had my oil level sensor fail twice with this oil issue it has cost me $7000 Australian dollars so far. Each time they told me massive job that requires sump removal and at least two days to complete.
The job listed by topix looks like it would take about an hour.
Me thinks they have taken me for a long ride down a very dark tunnel! Ripped Off ! ?

The bulletin allows half an hour but I don't know why it would take that long!

The earlier fix is similar to the 3.0 smoke problem where some vehicles had multiple turbo replacements before the updated drain was devised. My D4 had 1 turbo replacement then began blowing smoke again just after end of warranty which was cured when I fitted the revised drain.

LR can be slow to react at times. AFAIK the o-rings for the turbo oil supply pipe from the oil cooler still aren't available as LR spare parts.

Had this campaign come up for mine about a month ago. Ironically at the same time I'd been having the engine going into limp mode due to the turbo actuator dying due to oil tracking through the wiring loom. Until oil starts to seep through the turbo actuator case there is no external evidence - the waterproof connectors used keep the oil in!

Interestingly, a service bulletin has existed for quite some time describing the symptoms of turbo actuator failure due to oil ingress and specifying this wiring 'mod' and actuator replacement. At least the actuator is now available as a separate item - not that its cheap (about half the cost of a new turbo.).

The oil tracks up by capillary action inside the cables between the conductor strands so a soldered joint should stop it. This is not the first time Landrover have been affected by this, the TD5 used in the Discovery 2 and Defender had the same problem with the injector wiring loom. It was inside the rocker cover and oil eventually tracked up to the engine ECU causing misfiring. Most TD5 owners now treat replacing this loom as part of regular maintenance.
