Unlucky Laughing EFB also works with start/stop if that's the reason why an AGM is required?

Only car in our family with start/stop is my daughter's Honda Jazz and the start/stop hardly ever works, cuts in. She doesn't mind as the car has cheaper road tax because of it.

Then you don't need an AGM battery. I checked the Yuassa site and it also said my 2009 requires an AGM battery. It doesn't. Only those fitted with stop/start do. They're just trying to upsell a more expensive battery which is bad form and another reason I don't buy Yuassa batteries.

This isn't strictly true. I have two L322 4.4TdV8's (glutton for it!), neither of which was fitted with an AGM battery when we bought them (although the correct LR part is AGM). Both have since been fitted with AGM, now it might be a finer point, but previously neither of them would run the auxilary heater for more than 30 sec or so before it cut out. Since fitting AGM, both function as they should. I should add that in all other respects the cars were fine on the previous battery, although they needed topping up charge wise if only doing short journeys few a week or so (not now required). These are simply my experiences. Drives:

That's a fair point, thanks for sharing. It does go to show then that you get what you pay for and with that in mind when it comes time to replace my own FF battery from the lead acid fitted, I think I would go for an EFB as they supply more bang for the buck.

Th

anks all. Fitted a new Bosch agm battery today. Interestingly, Euro Car Parts advertise them at over £500...! I didn’t pay that. However, when fitting I found this. Where does it go?

If the plug has yellow wires attached to it probably the explosive charge activation (via the airbags) that disconnects the battery in the event of an accident. 2003 Range Rover Vogue TD6

this is virtually identical to my experiences on my 2010 tdv8 which was fitted with AGM new.

the car needed a new battery and i went the cheap non-AGM route. all was fine except in cold times when the aux heater was used a few times and then followed by short journeys the car would sense 'low battery' and refuse to run the aux heater. AGM battery fitted and all was well. non-AGM battery still working fine in another role.

it may be the case that if you don't have (or use) the aux heater, or if you don't do short journeys in winter after aux heater use, that non-AGM battery will be fine

The 020 does fit, just fitted one to my TDV8, just had to move the big fuse from the side of the terminal to the top.

Probably a bit long ago now, but I don't suppose you have any info as to how you did this please?

Disappointingly my battery only holds 12.1v when I have had it on the ctek overnight. Could be the reason my FBH doesn't fire. Car starts absolutely fine but 12.1v is on the edge of failing I recckon.

Anyone used one of these?

I fitted a Yuasa in my wife's 06 Boxster and it has been excellent (replaced a Bosch S4)

Thanks

On further investigation the Gap tool; looks like it shows conflicting info. In the top left hand corner of the main screen it was showing 12.1 but in live values it was 12.6 and 91% charge which is clearly fine. Only ever got to 14.1 with the engine running but I'm inclined to leave it be for now (Varta G14 less than a year old) and see what happens.

I recently spoke to LR on this subject AGM / NON AGM i was told all 2010 - 2012 models 3.6 & 4.4 should be fitted with a 019 AGM battery even though they do not have start / stop they even re-called early 2010 models to replace the battery with a AGM one. i was informed this is due to the smart charging system and in cold weather it can take a toll on a normal battery type. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Yes, went on holiday in September (3 weeks) and on return the battery was FUBAR. Replaced with that exact battery and it rocks. Mine is 2009 and doesn't need coding or have any of that smart charge pish the later +2010 models have. Fit and forget. Also a great price from Tayna.
