So you weren't able to unlock the drivers door using the key blade?

It would suggest a mechanical fault with the door lock if so, as even with the battery disconnected/removed you should be able to unlock the drivers door with the key blade.

Same problem here, broke an emergency key trying to open the door when the battery died an horrible death, any secret code/ password/ holy water required to open the door? Can't turn the key clockwise, body of the key in the way therefore right turn only I would have thought.

sounds like your lock barrel is us
my rover dealer quoted just under $2000 for a new one
having pulled mine to pieces and seeing how it works and goes together if all else fails, i would try and drill out the barrel
or cut the lock with an angle grinder might be better RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I should have looked on Youtube first before even attempting to op the door with the key, using the key to open the door. Only someone with a wild imagination would insert the key, only a little way, twist, lever and remove the cover bit on the handle, then and only then can you use the key, don't forget to disable the alarm by holding the smart key against the steering column, buttons on the outside, then press the stop/start button, why didn't I try to look this up in the owners manual??, Ah locked in the car, silly me. Confused

took the door latch part out
couldn't find any thing wrong with that
when i went to put it back in, i thought i had bucklys chance of lining up the key part, so i removed it
i found the key part had a broken part
put the lock back together and used a screwdriver instead of the key
with the door open and the latch in the closed position, i turned the screwdriver anticlockwise once
this locked the drivers door
turned it anticlockwise once more and all the doors locked
turned it clockwise once and the drivers door lock unlocked
turned it clockwise a second time, all the windows and sunroof opened and so did the doors
turned it anticlockwise, all the windows and sunroof closed and so did the doors
it changed and changed again
now, when locked, i turn the key clockwise and it opens the drivers door, a second turn, nothing
open the drivers door and the alarm goes off, i then have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on, the alarm stops
i then get out of the car, put the key in the door, turn it clockwise once, nothing, turn it a second time and all the doors open RR 2005 4.4 petrol
