I'm thinking about the purchase of a diagnostic tool but as the generally recommended iidtool is out of my price range and there seems to be some mention of using the icarsoft ones, is there a preferred model?

I'm not bothered about being able to 'Tweak' settings here and there, just more being able to read fault codes and have an explanation that's in English not 'computer speak'

The IID tool is an expensive outlay but pays for itself pretty quickly, if you don't need a tool straight away, it might be worth putting some pennies away and saving up for the IID tool once you have enough funds 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

I have an icarsoft for the Porsche , nice piece of kit to be honest . Should fit your needs perfectly tbh. Nice interface and dead easy to use

GAP diagnostic iID BT... most features and uses. Use your phone or tablet so has a great screen.

I was once in the exact same position.
Bought the icarsoft LR2 then quickly regretted it. Sold it and bought an IID Bluetooth after saving up a bit more.
For me, easier to use, Bluetooth so no wires and app driven off your phone/tablet.
Customer service from GAP is second to none.

Alternative to icarsoft is Foxwell nt530 with one make software.

I have Land Rover’s T4, Black Box Solutions Faultmate, and a Gap IID (non-BT)

My preference is definitely for the Faultmate even though it requires more setting up (plugging bits together and connecting to a laptop. I haven’t found the Gap to be all that useful. Maybe I’m just used to the T4 and Faultmate. Ron B. VK2OTC

He clearly said the IID is out of pocket.....

I have used the icarsoft i930 for 2 years now and find it very good, it has never failed to connect with the cars that I test drove when looking for my FF, it is very easy to use and is able to interrogate all modules on all JLR vehicles. It has the ability to monitor any number of sensors in real time.
Oh the other positive reason to go for it is price, I've seen it for around £100 new.

In my case it also has the ability to work with my damaged diagnostics socket which my IID tool has completely failed to do, which until I can get around to repairing it has made my IID pretty poor value for money. Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006
