Hi,
I’m usually on the RRsport forum,
My sport was recently stolen and it wasn’t via a keyless relay theft as such;
They picked the drivers door lock, opened the door - alarm went off and then they plugged a device (not a laptop) into the obd port and within seconds the alarm stopped, lights came on and engine started.
They also cut the steering lock off with an angle grinder. All this was done in under 2 minutes. And Land Rover tracker went dead within 5 minutes.

I did a little bit of searching online and it’s very easy to find the device I mention and all the tools available and it seems it’s legal to sell them.

The police didn’t care and didn’t even come to collect or view the cctv footage. Insurance company have been very efficient and good but I am no longer able to insure a Range Rover, most companies won’t even quote me now

Therefore simply disabling keyless or using a faraday pouch is not enough protection, I was going to get a ghost fitted but didn’t get round to it and always thought the steering lock was a good deterrent.

I strongly suggest you all get a ghost or other form of security fitted to your cars, it’s a real pain and very costly when they get nicked.

With the device that plugs into the obd port to program a new key would mean the steering lock disengages on ignition.

I’m talking about a big yellow steering lock with a separate key, like what was used in the 80s and 90s

Sorry to hear that...

False OBD port sounds needed too.

Kill switch too Cheers, Greg

A tiny nod to extra security, but I have an old iPhone 5 plugged into an obscure charging point in the car....if it’s stolen and they do the dirty on the in-car security, I’ll try “find my phone” on iCloud. I might work... L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Really sorry to hear of your loss, they should be fogged at the very least.

Can I ask what year you RR sport is please? Post 2015 vehicles have a modified KVM fitted (L405) anyway so I assume the L494 would be there same which was suppose to stop the thieves getting the car started via the OBD port, but there are new devices coming out all the time unfortunately.

it was a late 2016, it had the newer KVM where you are unable to programme new keys.

From my research the device they used to start the car can be used on any Land Rover including 2020 models. One of the websites I found even had a video demonstrating it on a discovery sport. Its disgusting!

New OBD dummy port arrived today, really simple to fit.
Just above the peddles there is a removable panel, three 7 mm self tapping bolts. Remove and the panel pulls away.
The OBD port is just to the right of the accelerator pedal, it simply pushes out of it’s bracket using a small screwdriver to assist the clips either in end.
Once out you plug your OBD into the dummy, the end with only two wires, then click the other end back into the slot on your car, job done. I connected my diagnostic tool and it does power it, but that’s all, I was unable to communicate with any of the ECU’s. Hopefully this will fool any would be thief or at least buy some time as the alarm is not disabled once the car is broken into, nor can they start it via the OBD port. Mr. Green

Hi Phil. Yes that’s the only down side, it will have to be put back to original spec before carrying out any work via the OBD port including service resets, but not too big a job to change it back Thumbs Up
