It's incredible Pete, you're right, you couldn't make it up. I'm with you, I'd have a leisurely drive over to Market Rasen!

So I take it, mine is just a 'normal', green tinted, heated, but lower wind noise type? And, the issue you've had is getting one that's climate control plus or whatever LR call it?

One other thing, does anyone know if it'll need calibration for the 'high beam' assist that comes with the Vison Pack specified on my car? I know newer cars with collision prevention have to be re-calibrated, just wondering if that applies toa 2011 Vogue SE with adaptive cruise and vision assist?

Cheers,

Mine is the same spec, the Autoglass fitter knew nothing about it and he had done similar RR's before, so probably not..!! Pete

Thanks, that's good to know. One less thing to worry about. Wink

I hate having screens fitted to my cars, there's always a chance something'll get messed up, and I've been unlucky in the past.

I have to admit, I'll tell the windscreen company up-front that I'm a fussy bug*er and I want a quality job, new top seal, new side trims, etc. I'll also be mentioning this to the fitter, which'll save them a lot of agro later on.

There are really good people out there, across all the trades and professions - but there also seem to be a lot of 'it'll do' merchants as well. Same at work these days, it does my head in.

How the hell can they quote' betterment" when replacing an original item with the same ? Insurance is supposedly there to put you back in the same position you were in before your claim.Would they feel better if they could add a few scratches and stone chips to your new one ?

Yeah, the betterment is a bit of a laugh...!!

To put this to bed, Admiral paid me out, and waved my screen excess. I bought the last genuine screen, of this spec, in the country, phoned the fitter last week but he couldn't fit it until Wednesday this week which was a result as I had to drive down the M62 earlier this week and "BANG"

Another bulls eye in the screen... Shocked Rather glad he couldn't fit me in sooner....

New screen fitted fine on Wednesday, he took a lot of time getting it lined up and level with the surrounding panels, got that new car feeling back and the heated elements all work... I fitted new wipers.

Looks nice with it's Land Rover logo...

Thumbs Up Pete

Got there in the end. Nice one.

Need a screen protector now... I recon a couple of hundred for an iPhone could do the job... you’d hardly notice the joins... just don’t use your new wipers 🤣

That was lucky! Normally these things happen to me just after I change them. Especially getting nails in new tyres 🤣

And yes, I like having that logo. Or with Mercedes AMG the signature etc. To me not doing it right on cars like these and trying to cut costs by using third party glass actually ends up more expensive.

Glad to hear it had a happy ending 👍

Quick update on my windscreen replacements, FFRR booked for next week, that's being done by AutoGlass at my place. They read the specs of the screen to me from the registration number and got it right. I asked for a new top strip and side 'A' post covers, lets see what happens, I doubt they'll bring any.

The Movano van screen that's also gone, that's being done by National Windscreens. Again they're coming out to me, I asked for the price before going through insurance and was surprised it's only £149+VAT fitted, so £179 all up, which is less than my £190 windscreen excess! Thumbs Up

I just had mine replaced by Autoglass. No problems at all, they came straight out with the original pilkington Land Rover branded ! I was worried, but all turned out fine, fitter really good you'd never know they'd changed it.

Windscreens and insurers is little more than a racket and I really don't understand why it persists in these 'costs downwards' days...

My old company had D4 Commercials as well as running site vans etc - as such, we had a good relationship with a local windscreen company but, as you might imagine, the insurance company wanted to use Autoglass.

Around £570 for the screen from Autoglass and sub-£200 from the local chap...

Makes your blood boil!

I have had 5 yes five new screens in the last 7 years all from auto glass and some were good some were bloody awful had wrong spec no trims even gaps but I refused to accept the crap and they always managed to give me the windscreen of the correct spec and all the trims but hard work . To the extent that I need another but the hassle is just too much
Also Admiral insurance
Doubt it will ever be as easy as it should be

Just had my 405 done by Autoglass, requested a Pilkington Screen, they hadn’t got one and fitted me an AGC screen.

Looks perfect and is the right spec. Tbh I was dubious as it wasn’t a pilkington screen but AGC is asahi glass company, Japanese, same as pilkington, which is owned by nippon sheet glass, and they make OE for the likes of Lexus so I’m happy to se how it goes and at the end of the day the stone chip which bust the Pilks screen was absolutely tiny. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
