I guess it can be handy, but then again splicing wires into a loom is one of the most basic operations. Saying that, it’s wire it to a dashcam batter preferably to make use of “advanced” features like parking modes. No need to splice anything the.

£11 for a 12v to 5v is a bit expensive but it saves getting separate bits ..

didnt know that it costs that much for a container .. ... - .- -.

used to be about £1600 apparently, but over the last 6 months the prices of shipping from China has gone through the roof. Saw it on the BBC the other day.

For all those who need ACC.
I have just enquired the other day with powerfuluk if they had a tap in loom with a 3rd ACC wire, as my cam from my last car is a 12v Qvia T790 1 ch camera.
They already have this in motion and it will be available in a few weeks time.

Now all I need is a suitable 12v rear cam any suggestions?

BTW I love the Utube video's they are all worth a watch lol 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I can highly recommend the BlackVue dr900 dual
Gives both front and rear 1080p with good quality recording and good performance in low light.

Requires running a cable from the front camera to the rear.
Links to the wifi if required for automatic upload of incidents
Nice and discreet and all settings controlled via your mobile phone either connected directly or via cloud.

Excellent looking to do this mod when I pick up my new toy next week.... just to confirm you used this tap in loom on a 2018MY as Powerful say these haven't been tested on anything after 2017. Ta. Thumbs Up

Thanks Gremlin, I'll be fitting my 2019MY AB with a Blackvue which uses 12v so I'll be ordering the basic one.
Cheers

I'd do some research on the Bloackvue. I had one on my 2018 car and I kept getting a Low Battery warning, even set at it's lowest setting.

I have a LR generic one which was fitted by the dealer in my latest car and have had no problems at all. All LR cars from 1984

I'll be using a newer X model without a Powermagic box, looks like you can set battery protection to 11.8V, 12V, and 12.5V. I plan to start at 12.5V
I asked the dealer about the LR one and they said they sell 'hardly any' so decided in the DIY route.

The LR is very good though and simple to use. I had problems with the Blackvue and found it not so user friendly All LR cars from 1984

Tanks to the OP for this useful post.

I've got a NextBase 600 series and have moved it form my new Defender, D3, D5, RRS and now I am going to fit it to the L405 I got last week.

I've seen Simon's (Powerful UK) tap in loom which seems nice and easy but plugging the hardwire kit into the fuse box is easy too, and as there's zero chance of me getting one before new year now I'll do what I have always done.(I also have 2 Nextbase hardwire kits in stock so it makes financial sense to just get on with it)

Great to see there's a good earth point behind the dash end panel, the D5 didn't have this and I drilled a tap hole into the metal work behind, this will be a bit easier.

Regarding someone's question about how the A pillar trim actually comes off, in the new Defender you had to lift up towards the roof lining to detach it, maybe its the same on these? I will try and find out. Discovery 4 HSE
