The saga continues......battery removed and retested....showed as perfect! Garage had charged it while in the vehicle when fitting replacement brake discs and pads. Replacement battery fitted so not any further forward. I’ll get the alternator tested by an auto electrician....thanks for all contributions Thumbs Up

Checked battery/charging today.

Engine on figures are with all lights on and full demist program running.

Do results appear ok?

The minimum with engine running is too low unless it was a glitch, you need to check that one again. Run the check after starting. BMW i3 Electric Car

Thank you, I’ll try it again. I think this reading was taken as I started the engine....

As I recall, the voltage remains around 13.8V after startup for a few minutes and should them rise to over 14V, as the alternator starts to charge the battery, once all the electronics have settled down. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I’ve been monitoring the alternator and battery and while the alternator is charging at 14.7 - 14.9 the new battery never reaches above 12.3V. For example, on Sunday I checked the battery reading at 12.2V, I then drove for an hour and a half but when I rechecked the battery it read 12.3V.

Is it possible that the alternator is not allowing the battery to fully charge?

The new battery is also draining by between 0.1V and 0.3V overnight....

Any help gratefully received Thumbs Up

Auto electrician has traced the battery drain to fuse 49. Specific component still to be identified (probably satnav unit). Replacement battery and alternator probably never required! Evil or Very Mad

Battery on L322s are always a pain. Censored

Two positives to take from this:
Your current drain located, if not yet identified
Alternator/Battery replacement would have raised their head at some stage anyway, so at least they are out of the way.

If used every day and a new battery fitted every year, no problems.
Standard testing during development? Not reflective of typical use after warranty.

I have a voltage logger fitted to mine. Sometimes drops 12% between 2 and 5 in the morning. (FSR changed just in case)
Other times can be left 6 weeks and under 5% drop. Bizarre ! (perhaps I am too old for all this)

Personal view is over enthusiastic software. Shut the doors, press lock, alarm on, EVERYTHING ELSE OFF - Simples !

My goodness, the torque from 4.4 TDV8 is staggering. Almost makes their foibles worth it.

New battery every year ? Sorry - Tongue in cheek comment - couldn't resist. Rolling with laughter

I find it hard to believe that Land Rover, BMW, Ford whoever, never had similar battery problems during development. Whistle Whistle

Hence, maybe they always put new batteries in. Duracell perhaps?
