United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Aintree Green

I would happily pay someone to put a dipstick on to my engine. I do not understand why we need to have an electronic system. Even my mini has the same electronic system to check the oil level. I mean, how hard is it to flip the bonnet, retrieve dipstick, wipe, reinsert, and read. If you can’t manage that, you shouldn’t be allowed to drive a car. Grrrr rant over

Hi zebedee. Not sure if it’s a typo or just a guess at your oil quantity 7.2 litres. It’s actually 9.5 litres on the 4.4. Just done mine last weekend Thumbs Up

I note that there are other threads on this subject :

Dealing with the same subject and with very valuable advice from Zebedee on how to make a DIY Dispstik using a base guitar string.
I have copied his system using some plastic strimmer cable and am glad to report that the SDV8 L405 that I recently bought with the dreaded ‘Not available’ fault is bang on the 73cm full mark he suggests.

A couple of mods: I have cable ties attached to the stopper that fits on the top of the suction tube so as not to lose it is I forget to put it back on:

And I have put my DIY dipstick into a flip lock bag along with some paper towel, to stow in the glovebox:

However, I still think it would not be difficult to make a proper Dipstick and consulted my local Indy 4x4 specialist Max, this morning with my ideas. He also knew of the base guitars string idea for the SDV8 but knows that it wont work for the SDV6 versions.

Having found and joined fullfatrr.com last evening, I drew some sketches and went to talk about them to him this morning.

However, since starting to look for the fittings online, I have found and even more suitable one to replace both the M14 male-male adapter and the ‘T’ peice:

I’d love to know everybody’s opinions, because this really doesn’t look like a difficult fix.
Max and I are going to attempt the real thing on my RR Vogue SDV8, when it next needs an oil change.
If it works, we might even assemble and offer kits to other RR users.
