United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue

I have a 322 and when I bought it 10 years ago on 65k it had a similar issue the dealer replaced the fluid and I paid for it but under the understanding that if it didnt they would reimburse me I had to force them to get an engineer down from the factory who drove the car 200 yds and declared new gearbox all paid for under warranty so go back and shout at them till it is fixed if all the others are saying it shouldn't make a noise then it shouldn't
Good luclk

The dealer had my car again to investigate the clunk I can feel. They said they couldn't find anything wrong and to try upgrading the gearbox software although I'd have to pay for that as the warranty doesn't cover updates and it might not sort out the issue.

So I had the software updated and sure enough it is still the same.

Yesterday I jacked both rear wheels off the ground and there was no obvious play in anything however I did notice I could rotate one wheel about a quarter of a turn before the other wheel started turning, in the other direction.

Does anyone know if there should be that much free movement ? 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

No, I didn't get it sorted. I tried another dealer and the service manager took it home overnight up the M1 to Milton Keynes.

He reported it drove perfectly... and the play in the drive train was normal.

I still think the clunk when putting it into drive or reverse first thing in the morning is still excessive but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black

Somebody else has mentioned defective engine mounts caused similar issues once changed it cured it. Could be worth a look I suppose. I will try the adaptation reset first if I notice no difference then I will contact GAP for software update rather than going to my local useless steeler who I spoke to today. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Here are the steps to getting it fixed:

1. Put service manager in front passenger seat
2. Foot hard on brake
3. Select 1st gear
4. Throttle up to spool turbos/supercharger
5. Release brake
6. Foot to the floor
7. Engine will slam against the mount causing the clunk

I was also able to do it on a 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. My service manager and I made it 100 ft before he said he had heard enough.

Or use the less violent method shown around the 2:00 minute mark. I have read the SDV8 mounts are liquid filled and much harder to remove due to the turbos. SCV8 come out without swearing. You can do it yourself, but a friend makes it much easier..
