Thanks @pld118 Very Happy

No, it’s a set of expensive brakes on a cheap car……. Rolling with laughter

£2200 all in, including the brake pipes, (just don’t tell the missus how much I spent on new tools Embarassed ) , and the labour was free!

Hard to do it cheaper, I think?

Test drive tonight to bed the brakes in,all working OK but pedal still slightly soft, so need to redo the full bleed with engine running & pressure flush.

There were issues to be honest, -the EPB actuators on the rear brakes were the wrong type, there ae 2 types, mine were the squared off connector plugs, some plugs have rounded ends, I’ll post a pic to show. I had to clean up & reuse my old actuators, which were fine anyway.

Without a lift, it was really difficult to undo the brake mounting bolts as I already said a real b*tch of a job, very hard to get decent leverage, ended up using a small trolley jack under the end of a long breaker bar, lots of plus gas, blowtorching, and swearing involved. TBH, I doubt I would attempt this again, although God knows what a garage would have charged me. Shocked

Best of luck to those who follow in my footsteps….. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Finally! All done! Shadow Chromed my 22’s and the effect is even better than I’d hoped for, very pleased:

Edit: Wheels by SEM Sunderland at a very reasonable £75 each plus VAT. Used them for decades and they always do a great job. No connection other than as a happy customer. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Embarassed Thanks guys, very much appreciated, it was all quite stressful tho’ but I hope other TDV6 owners will give it a go, and I’ll try to help as much as possible………. the brakes are awesome, and everything works exactly as it should, no unbalance in the system front to rear as I Secretly) had concerns about. The caliper guys made a few mistakes but to their credit came good and supported me when it counted. The discs look awesome and time will tell if the anticorrosion coating works as well as proclaimed.

Interesting at least one local LR Independent would not touch this work mainly “for fear of the unknown”.

Anyone up for it? Rolling with laughter “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Caliper mounting bolts

One of these will help

Makita DTW1002Z 18V Li-Ion LXT Brushless Impact Wrench

I use it for the 6 pot Brembos on my L322
The L322 uses stretch bolts on the rear, and non stretch on the front but with a hefty 275Nm torque setting
Literally a couple of seconds on / off
No swearing
No heat

@Rambles,

Thank you, I have a Silverline air impact wrench, but didn’t even try to use it, lol!
I just assumed there wasn’t enough access Embarassed
Obviously as you managed, there must be sufficient space, I might try a dummy run with my air tool for future reference.

Off topic slightly, for undertray bolts, I did ponder long between a DeWalt “90-degree” 18V cordless drill and the equivalent Makita impact wrench with 90-degree head, and came out in favour of the drill because of its dual functionality.
Perhaps I “need” both in my toolkit Thumbs Up Laughing “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I found it helps to put full opposite lock on the steering to get sufficient access on the side you are working. I.e steering lock to the left when working on the RHS

@Rambles,

Good point, sometimes you don’t think of the obvious when approaching a job, so some good tips for others following this.
Another rookie error I made at first in my paranoia to NOT spill brake fluid all over the drive was to make the clear plastic tube a good tight fit in the receiver bottle cap, -but left no vent hole to let air out! Embarassed
This REALLY slowed down the bleed and when disconnected? Yup! squirted brake fluid everywhere Big Cry Laughing Laughing
What a total Muppet! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Embarassed
A heavy glass jar is better to collect the used fluid, so it won’t blow over in the wind or get pushed over by the plastic pipe if you bump it accidentally. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
