H8 Bulb - Side Lights out ...confused...

Hi all

I hope someone can help me here because I'm a bit stumped.

When I'm driving and have my side lights on I kept getting the 'Check Side Lights' and bong on the dash. Tonight I decided to whip the lights out and just look at/change the bulb if necessary - 5 minute job.....

But.... In the sidelight enclosure of the headlights there are two bulbs. One a simple bayonet which is working when on sidelights and another - an H8 Osram 12V 35W.

H8 -

I've ran a meter across both bulbs and both are fine so its not the bulbs themselves. My handbook makes no mention of this type of bulb and the pictures within it show back covers that flip off to reveal the bulbs, not unscrew like mine. In short, nothing like my headlight units. I'm 99% these are the original items for my 2006 model year XBC501392LPO -

Can anyone shed some light on what they do and what they should come on with ? Or are they a non used cornering lamp as I couldn't see any motors in there?

Thanks Gavin

The H8 is a static cornering lamp, they come on dependent upon the road speed and steering angle.

Are the rear side lights OK? have you changed any lamps for LED's?

I can see the front side lights have been changed to LED.

This is your problem. It's near impossible to get the L322 to accept LEDs (trust me, I tried on my 2006) if not originally designed for them. It throws up all sorts of errors, even if the bulbs claim they're error free.

Change back to halogen bulbs and it will fix your problem. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks for your replies - Yes, you're right they have been changed before my ownership. I'll swap them out for original spec Thumbs Up Gavin

No need to go back to the old bulbs cos LEDs are far better. Its the cold monitoring of the bulbs that throws up the error because the LEDs don't offer the same resistance as a normal bulb so thge system thinks the bulb has popped. If you've got an IID you can turn off the cold monitoring which will stop the error messages. The only drawback is you'll have to go back to the good old days and do a walk around check of your lights every now and then to confirm they are all still working.

Thanks for all your replies. I took out the sidelight bulbs and they were indeed LED -

I had a packet of these standard Bosch bulbs handy so just fitted these for now. No error messages for now but I will look in to turning off the warning messages via the IID Tool.

If you want to use led bulbs buy good quality canbus error free bulbs and you won’t have any bother.
A word of warning, most if not all, of the so called canbus error free bulbs on the likes of eBay are absolute rubbish and will only work for a short time before causing issues.
You get what you pay for.

Agreed. To be honest, just ditch the idea of any LED exterior lighting because the car's CANBUS system is so sensitive, even high end error free bulbs will cause errors sometimes.

Interior is fine though and I did a guide on how to replace all of the interior lights with high end LED upgrades. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
