I think when i first posted, the Icebox unit was closer to £750 - And the Erisin being closer to £250, that was an almost no brainer. I delayed buying, and then they knocked the price down to about £500, so gave it a shot.

Yeah, impressively, no loss of functionality, couple of nuances, but nothing major.

Pros:
- Yes, set date and time through android, and yes it reflects on the cars analog clock
- Original reverse camera still works (i expected to lose this to be honest, as it came with a "free" basic one)
- Wired/Wireless Android Auto + CarPlay works out of box
- - Android Auto has black bars on the left/right side, so im using Headunit Reloaded, works great and is edge to edge

Cons:
- Radio signal sucks (ive never had an android unit where its great to be honest)
- I cant find a way to change it from kmh to mph (this forces the dash total milage to kmh too - I see the option, but unable to change it)

Thanks - my big issues with erisin is the time I can live without the rest - what app is used to set the time I’m wondering if it’s something I could find?

Yea the best thing you can to is what I did I spend £80 on a dab shark fin and painted it - partially dropped headlining for cables and got a £20 android usb dab adapter from AliExpress it works really well Current stable:

To be honest, i never actually went in to the settings and set the time (I checked and it is possible though).

By the time i had connected to my phones hotspot, and logged in to google play, it automatically pulled and synced the correct time.

Whatsapp - I didnt think it let you login to more than one place at a time anyway? (i know other things rely on a correct time though, so... what a pain!)

Ah, i was eyeing up a USB DAB one actually (something similar to https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEXXSON-Digital-R...amp;sr=8-3 ) - I was just going to route the antenna to the back of the car, as to not clutter up the dash. The DAB shark fin sounds a better idea! Not sure id be able to do a clean job of dropping the headliner though Laughing

The dongle should be fine that windscreen style aerial doesn’t work as we have so many heating elements I’ve tried!

Just to satisfy my curiosity more as there’s little info - does it come with 2 or 3 connectors as I know up to 05 it has the bmw connections and after it has jag? I know they both also use different buses so I’d have thought it would ask which you have Current stable:

I was also looking at trying to get a USB freeview aerial in there too Very Happy But, after having the dash apart for so long - Im putting off any further tweaks for a short while haha.

Only from memory, unless i find any paperwork is came with, the connections on the back of the unit, and wiring in the box were:

RCA Fakra
Aerial Fakra
2 x USB
Main harness
GPS / 4G / WiFi antennas

The main harness did split off in to a Fibre optic box, and a another logic box too.

One thing that threw me off course, was the main harness plug - I assumed it plugged in where the original screen was.
It didnt, it plugged in to (what i assume), is the main headunit control beneath the bottom glovebox?

(that maybe an obvious one for you RR regular's, haha - But i just assumed everything needed was behind the original screen)

Yeah that looks about right!

Although weirdly, IceBox's prices seem to fluctuate too - I paid £549, and its listed today at £589

Does yours show the terrain response etc and 4x4 info? There’s one on there now that does that looks similar.

Still not possible to set clock and date. On rovers with tft cluster can be annoying. Plus every app like radio, media player, settings looks different. No common theme. Just like blinky christmass tree.

If you look at those links the new ones do everything from amps to trip computer time date and 4x4 display you Miss nothing except rse.

Agreed if you use a bunch of random apps there’s no continuity but I just use idrive launcher they all are linked from there then Current stable:

not really.
I miss original dual fm tuner (dont use, but way better to simple Chinese tuner)
i miss speed dependent volume settings
i miss control of original logic7
i miss original surround cameras (new 360 may be better, but not possible to install front double cameras in bumper like original.
of course rse - could be made with android.
I miss original hands free.

For me best will be screen with possibility to switch to original system like they did in android units for l320

The FM here is a bit of a mout point as I went dab and put the best shark fin on I could find - I went all over Scotland and Orkney last week and I didn’t lose signal - granted fm is single tuner but I don’t use it as DAB is superior.

If you use CarPlay you can also use TuneIn app again better than fm so long as you have data.

The logic 7 amp is not the be all and end all the speakers are good though hence ripping out the amp and wiring each individual speaker and the sub to a 6 channel amp and even though they are original it sounds far superior now on a Chinese head unit.

I don’t have 360 on my 07 so I can’t answer that one and the speed dependant volume is annoying i turned it off and it’s off in my bmw too.

As I say I have an 07 and aside from the rse it’s better in every way now with dab CarPlay etc etc, I imagine the benefits are less for a 2010 for reasons like camera as you say. Current stable:

Danwilderspin,

Do the Chinese head unit like you sent the link to have an Amp?
Would it be possible to fit a Chinese unit up into a 2002 L322 ?

I have blown the DSP Amp in my RR so I'm looking for an easy fix, plug & play if possible, yes I will have to wire a reverse camera though.

Is yours a vogue or hse?

If a vogue you’ll need to run a harness from the boot to the new headunit up front about 5m.

Then you can either use an aftermarket amp with it or just connect the speaker wires to the headunit outputs but you lose the sub that way - I think haylands did a write up on this.

You could probably get away with an erisin for £200 and the harness Current stable:
