Hi all,

I`ve just purchased a lead that fits into the bottom of my phone which then has the connections for the aux between the seats in the rear.

Problem is I can`t get it to work! I`m wondering if I`m doing something wrong or I`ve bought the wrong lead.

I`ve connected phone, switched to aux on the touchscreen, put some music on the phone and nothing. Checked volume on both devices but still no sound.

Am I missing something??

afaik the aux is for output only, not input..

christ! no wonder then!

So how can I get my iphone to play the music through stereo without having to buy a connection for the back of the head unit?

You can input via the aux I am pretty sure as I have done so with my Blackberry sounds files....

Sorry scarey, I have to disagree - the 3.5mm aux "input" socket in the rear centre panel on D3,D4 RRS & FFRR is for audio input.

Looking at the link posted about the cable it appears to have two phono connections? How have you converted this to a single 3.5mm jack plug?

Works perfectly and charges the iPhone AND has a remote control

I would check that your cable is the right one as it doesn't look compatible to me AND as a rule, never use the headphone socket on an iphone as the audio source - It has very low line output and therefore low volume through the cars audio system

The 3.5mm RSE jack on my 2006 FFRR is for aux in and allows you to play music through the speakers. The red and white line-in inputs only allow you to play sound through the RSE.

Make sure your iPhone is turned up a the way, if that does not work, test the cable on something else and/or try another cable.

apologies all, i haven't got this feature so i wasn't sure...

Also, set the iPhone sound setting to 'small speakers' it will inprove the quality. Current MY2020

You can play video through the phono ports in the RSE panel, from your iPod for example. However it only plays on the REAR screens, not the front centre screen.

The real problem is that mp3 players are designed to drive headphones. Headphones don't need the same signal level as the AUX input. If you are going to use a headphone output, you'll most likely need some type of in-line amplifier. Google "portable headphone amp" or "Sound Shocker Pro" and you'll find lots of info. Almost all need some sort of power (battery or car plug-in) except Sound Shocker.

The Aux-in is intended to be connected to a devices headphone socket, the issue us the aux-in Range Rover does not amplify the input enough. I agree that this shortcoming can be overcome using a headphone amplifier, but it should not be necessary.

The Aux-in in my old Mercedes was fine.

I'll have a check on my lead, I bought it from ebay for £2.99 & can plug my iphone through the rear 3.5mm aux socket & it plays music without hassle.

I think we may be straying from the original post which was a concern specifically regarding an iPhone audio out and the correct cable - I was just pointing out that an iPhone has a very low output gain from the headphone socket and because of this the headphone socket is not really suitable to connect to the aux input in Land/Range Rovers! You have to use the main connector at the bottom of the phone which has a much higher audio output gain which works perfectly. Apple have obviously designed their phone that way "Health & Safety" for the ears I guess But without testing the headphone output of another make of phone I have no way of proving whether you could consider it a design fault of the car. I do know that on my old 2003 FFRR when I swapped out the radio tuner for the BMW version with aux input and you had an adjustable input gain from 1-6, this is not possible on newer FFRR models.
