Just seen this and previous mentioned thread.

I had this happen to me pulling onto my driveway a couple of months ago, complete failure of the same joint. Fortunately it was very low speed so no other damage and was all repaired under my LR extended warranty and they went over the top top repair pretty much the whole front corner including the driveshaft.

No one at the LR dealership recalled it ever happening before but clearly from this and other threads it does.
where mine failed there wasn't a lot of shiny cast metal left which indicated the hairline crack had been there for some time.

My chassis number is a lot lot higher than the ones in the affected range.

worth checking regularly

Cheers

Still waiting for the part to arrive, they’re on back order and the estimated date for delivery is 26/01/23.
I work for an LR indie in Derbyshire and we’ve never seen one fail even though we work on them daily. Clearly they do though judging by other peoples experiences. Our MOT tester was interested too, think he’ll be checking everyone a little closer from now on. Laughing

Interesting that Canada have seemingly started to recall cars affected by this problem. I wonder if anything will happen here in the UK?

Zebedee - very interesting and thanks for posting. I’m interested to see that it covers 2016 MY as I had thought that up to 2015 was the cutoff for the relevant VINs. Watching with interest… 2016 SDV8 AB

I thought I would have a bash... just sent this email to LR along with my VIN, address and mobile number. I'll update if I get a reply.

Good afternoon.

As the owner of an early L405 Autobiography I write to seek confirmation as to the current Jaguar Land Rover UK stance regarding the above subject.

As you aware a series of documented catastrophic failures have occurred due to a defective suspension component. You have sought to remedy the matter via recalls in a number of territories most recently Canada (Safety recall N759) however no such recall has been issued in the UK.

I would be grateful therefore if you could confirm to me please:

1. The exact VIN range where the defective components are known to have been fitted on UK Market vehicles and

2. Why no safety recall has been issued on affected vehicles in the UK.

I note your latest recall acknowledges the potential for a persons safety to be affected and therefore am concerned that I or my family may be at risk when using our Range Rover and why our safety is considered to be a lesser concern than in other territories.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.

Oddly, N759 isn't an outstanding recall yet Laughing

This was unexpected.... Snapped Hub link

I was arriving at my parent's place over the weekend and upon reversing outside of their house felt a clunk then the car went into extended suspension mode and something didn't feel quite right. Upon checking the car the front passenger wheel was not straight and i realised how lucky i was, with this happening outside of their house rather than 70 miles per hour on the motorway. Has anyone had this situation happen in the past? with the top of the hub snapping? It looks like a new hub, and boot for my air suspension strut is needed and luckily no further damage that i can see.

You're not alone. This same issue has been documented a number of times on this forum and beyond. Have a quick search of the forum as there's an extensive thread about similar failures.

Need a lawyer to get his teeth into this issue.

I find it appalling that a premium brand such as JLR hasn't recalled this.

Its obviously an engineering error that needs a rework to get right.
