Oh no I'm not concerned about that Graeme, I'm concerned with how long it takes the front to raise especially compared to Haylands L405.

His does access to normal height in 6 seconds whilst mine is taking over 30 seconds.

It had a new compressor in March fitted by main dealer and it should be lifting from the reservoir anyway especially after driving for 30 mins with no driver selected height alterations.

might be worth drilling a very small hole in the exhaust ( of the compressor ) , that is something a lot of us have done to get the suspension working again at double quick speed

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic23038...ust+filter

even with a new compressor sometimes the sinterted brass filter needs a little help to work 100%

My understanding is that the reservoir is there to avoid having to always run the compressor while making fine height adjustments while driving. 1-step height changes should be mostly accomplished using the reservoir unless within a minute or 2 of a previous change or performing a 2-step change, ie from access to off-road height. My L322 is parked at access height to fit under a low carport but it only takes a couple of seconds to raise to normal height.

Okay so are we saying this is a fault then?

I've just tested again, car has been left in normal all night (it's not dropped so hopefully no bag leaks)

Just driven 30 mins to work, dropped to access, waited a couple minutes and pressed to raise to normal.

Stopwatch says 28 seconds.

Pcourtney, I thought a blocked brass silencer would just affect lowering times not raising times as the compressor doesn't intake air through the brass filter?

Okay, can anyone take a look at their gallery pressure when raising between access and normal heights?

What sort of pressure does yours get up to during a raise operation is my question.

Yes, without owning a 405, nearly 30 seconds is way too slow for one height change I'd say.

So either;

- Compressor worn out / not building pressure fast enough (but you should get a fault code and warning for this I believe)
- Pressure sensor is faulty, meaning that the reservoir pressure is actually lower than it should be.
- Some major restriction between the reservoir and the air springs (most likely place would be in the reservoir valve block?)

I'd have a look at IID values for compressor temperature (would give an indication of if it's working overtime and burning up), and reservoir / gallery pressure during lifting to try and figure out what's going on. Sam's Motor & Machine YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgNSRjY0I9FCzsi9ku3ccbw

Yes CaymanBlack new compressor fitted to cure air suspension fault.

I've just phoned up and booked it in, 6th July.

In the meantime I'm going to continue to diagnose myself so if anybody can check their gallery pressure when raising from access to normal height that would be most useful. Very Happy

Think I might have found the problem with the slow to rise suspension.

It's leaking air around the voss fitting at the compressor.

The compressor is date stamped 2022 so is indeed a new one as it should be since the main dealer fitted it.

But it's fitted into my original 2015 date stamped housing.

Air is leaking from where my finger is pointed in the picture, I bet when they fitted it they've overtightened the fitting and cracked the plastic.

Tested with soapy water too just to be doubly sure.

Really glad you found a fault BUT, I must say... A competent shop should have found that and would have saved you quite some amount of stress sir... Thumbs Up

I dont know if a leak at the compressor like this could affect ride quality or if it will be improved when this mess up is rectified.

I also don't know if this could be linked to me feeling the engine is laggy and steering is heavier. (Doubtful)

It's booked in with the dealer and I imagine the compressor will have to be replaced again so at this point it's a wait and see situation.

Hi MarinaWestminster
Ive been watching this threat with interest and frustration on your behalf. It’s good news about finding the leak, and who knows it may somehow be linked to the other issues you are having… doubtful, but who knows.

I appreciate that you prefer to work on the car yourself, rather than let others do it, however there does appear to be a level of diagnostics that needs expert involvement and possibly the right tools. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and there are many who can give fantastic insight into problems… however sometimes you simply need to be looking at readings and methodically worth through things to get those answers.

IMHO you are at a point where you need to:
- accept defeat and move the car on, either away from the brand or to an older L322 which you were happy with
- seek a reputable indi who are specialists and able to crack this sort of issue. I cannot really recommend anyone near you but there will be someone somewhere…

Either way you are going to loose £££ fixing or replacing the car. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Past rides:
2014 Audi Q7 3.0d (good riddance)

I think at this point I will wait until this air leak is fixed and the suspension raises at a similar speed to Haylands car before evaluating any ride issues further.

Should this not effectively be a fix on this car then I will begin to consider who the right person to take the car to may be.

I've done some more research and can see the compressors are supplied with the brass voss fitting already installed and fitted with a plug.

The dealer technician would have just pulled this plug out with his/her fingers and pushed the airline in so in reality they aren't to blame but rather whomever assembled this compressor may have overtightened the fitting when installing it.

As a result of this finding I'm now thinking this compressor may not have been right from the get go as in it could have been faulty right back in March when it was installed.

Sadly I'll wait to wait until the 6th to find out.
