Hi,

I'd be wary of EBC pads if your running standard discs, in my experience they are excellent but at the expense of higher disc wear.

You'd be better going for Brembo's or use EBC discs as well. But then your going down the upgrade route which can turn out to be very expensive if your heavy footed.

Just an opinion. Bow down

I read about a kettle of hot water. I will try this in the morning.

I will be upgrading to EBC rotors. The only reason this needs to be done is the sticky pistons or stuck pad.

I am hoping for just stuck pad. But have ordered a rebuild kit to be sure. SDV8 AB MY 2020

@Luxmoggy:

It may seem obvious to some, but if you’ve not done this job before, don’t forget to turn the steering full lock to get much better access to the caliper bolts, guess which numpty didn’t…… Whistle Embarassed

When were the brake flexible hoses last replaced? It may be a good idea to do these at the same time?
They need replacing every 4-6 years or so, I’ve forgotten the exact period. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I knew about the wheel turning from watching videos before starting. I will add tap-out the pins to the summer/winter tyre change - add copper grease as needed.

I am off to buy a bigger hammer while waiting for the parts.

The rubber hoses are for October 2025, I hope I don't need to take the system apart. SDV8 AB MY 2020

This is like lots of little jobs they are small. Just change the brake pads. - a few hours - due to stuck pins.

Now change pads, and discs and rebuild the calliper (still to be seen) - lots of hours over a few days. This needs to be completed soon as driving to the mountains with it for Christmas. SDV8 AB MY 2020

Do not use copper slip on alloy callipers, makes the alloy the sacrificial anode and rots your callipers quicker than spraying them with salt water....!!!!

They sell alloy calliper brake grease.... Thumbs Up Pete

So with the pin cut it is now out.

The 2 bolts that hold the calliper don't want to move, I have tried with an air gun and the small break bar. So I will buy a bigger bar.

For the screw for the disc is it a T45 or T50? SDV8 AB MY 2020

I did all 4 last year during my “big brakes” upgrade, it was a b*tch to bleed the brakes fully, you need to run the ABS pump with iiD tool or similar to purge the last bit of air. (To be fair, I might have done better if my collection vessel allowed air out! Embarassed)

@Luxmoggy: Plus Gas is what you need, soak the bolts the day before.
Renew the bleed nipples, and very carefully wrap only the threads in PTFE tape to stop them rotting, it creates a physical barrier between steel & aluminium. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

PlusGas is not readily available in Germany. So have ordered some Liqui Moly Pro-Line Schnellrostlöser. I hope that works.

While waiting on everything, I sprayed the bolts again with WD-40.

I will try again tomorrow with the gun to loosen the bolts. The new breaker bar comes on Saturday.

This is one time it is not so good in Germany. I can't work on the car on Sunday - well it is I can't make noise. SDV8 AB MY 2020

How big of a bar? and how much strength/weight to get them to move the 2 bolts?

Today new axle stands arrived. They are bigger than my current ones which are are max extension to get the height needed. I will be happier trying with the bar on them. SDV8 AB MY 2020

They torque up at 230 Newton meters so they are FT even when freshly done up. letters not necessarily in the right order

Just seen that my air wench max torque is about this so it will never undo them.

Might buy a new air wench as early Christmas present. Ingersoll Rand 2235QTiMAX. I have wanted one for a few years. It has 1760 Nm max torque. SDV8 AB MY 2020
