So it's taken a while, but I'm back in another L322 as my daily having had to limit the use of my older non ulez compliant L322 m62 to weekend trips and anything else I could manage but having to travel out to collect it and back again from my mates property means it wasn't being used as much as I wanted.

I did previously consider and asked the collective on here about the 4.2 sc but couldn't find the right 1 so when the 5.0s/c ab came up I pulled the trigger.

My older car is still staying my mate and talented mechanic who did the engine rebuild is going to run it for a bit and keep it in tip top condition and my 4.2 sport has been relegated to the far side parking spot on the driveway .

Just like my other 322 I'm going to keep a progress report and history on here it's an amazing way of tracking the history of everything we do to our cars and looking back at my other cars posts has reminded me of everything iv done to it and more.

First impressions, it's a 5.0 s/c so that's taken care of. Iv not been out of a fullfat as still been using my older one think I was 1 of the 1st on here to fit the flappy paddle mod. It's a nice place to be with It's black on black interior which seems almost unblemished.

Bad points
Transmission judder which didn't show up on the test drive so I'm going to look at that ASAP.

2nd day of ownership I opened the rear tailgate and the rusted out straps let go on 1 side.

That's it......honestly that seems to be it.

Things done apart from a full check over.

Obligatory interior led bulb upgrade.
New tailgate straps orderd .
Full transmission kit including bridge seal and tubes plus 20 litres of fluid for a good flush out before fitting said kit.
A quick wash n Polish it's not been good weather for the polisher.

Planned stuff.
Iv just fitted new at tyres to my sport 275 45 20 which after research on here I'm led to belive can go straight on to the full fat so a wheel and tyre swop is on the cards. I did take it on my shoot last Saturday and got it sideways along the track to the shooting grounds on its standard road tyres.
Then again my mate in his grenadier did the same with a/t fitted.
Dog cage went straight in iv used it in my
P38 v8
L322 v8
Sport supercharged v8
And now the 5.0 v8

It's getting a full service of course so that's about it I'm picking my mate up from Poole harbour next week so a nice 380 mile round trip to settle in to it.

As soon as I did my chains and was giving the car a good clean one of my tailgate straps snapped as well. I ordered genuine from Duckworth's as none of the after market ones available at the time seemed to have the ball for the damper on them.

My gearbox judder ended up being the torque converter lock up solenoid. I diagnosed it by looking at the input and output speed sensors. Unfortunately on the 6HP28 you can't monitor the solenoid pressures which made it a bit more difficult.

Investigated no access height fault today and was the common problem the cone shaped exhaust filter blocked so drilled a 1mm hole threw the centre.

Fingers crossed no more teething issues 🙏

Fitted the new lower tailgate straps I can now sit on the back of tailgate on last shoot day of the season as intended

Fitted and tested my H7 main beam with led bulbs pleased so far as I upgraded all my bulbs in my D3 and sport. Os done for comparison with ns

Got it dirty and discovered iv got an intermittent wiper motor wipers got stuck twice today quick check on here and iv orderd a new motor after checking the linkage is all good 👍

So the new eBay wiper motor arrived yesterday and it's dry here today do set about swopping it out. Just the motor as others have said its fiddly but doable.
The electronics repair engineer in me said strip it down to see if it's fixable.

Time to install the optimate to the rear fuse box as iv had low power indicated twice so far dispite checking the battery and charge on the car I know there power hungry but !!!!!.

After a 300 mile round trip yesturday it's time to start flushing the gearbox before the filter, bridge seal and tube seal replacment.

Got the car nice and level 1st job is to remove the heat shield and expose the filler plug and make sure its not fubar. Only 4 bolts holding it in place it's a shame to see the previous garage who did a filter and oil swop didn't bother to fit the difficult to get at bolt and instead opted to just leave it out. No it hasn't fallen out all the other bolts had thread lock on them.

Next job to drain the oil only to find the drain plug finger tight .
Just leaving it to slowly drain with the drain plug still in before a refill iv got 10 litres for a flush which I will repeat until it's all used before the main event.

Have now replaced all of the gearbox solenoids reset adaptations but still have the shudder and rpm fluctuating on the motorway and still have the fault.gonna drive it like I stole it to see if it improves if not I think its torque converter time.

Having confirmed my tc needs replacing (big thanks to rrphil) in the mean time I'm getting round to doing a full service. Apart from the other previous odd jobs iv done this is now a must do. The car came with some service history from an independent from the previous but last owner and was serviced in 2022. It's not done a lot of miles since to be fair but on inspection when I pulled the air filters out they had a 2014 manufacture date stamp on them and the service history states they had been replaced twice once in 2020 then again in 2022 I think not.

A big service was carried out in 2020 including all fluids the bill states non locking diff oil but topix print out states e diff so I'm gonna have a good look at that. Same service history shows gearbox filter/flush and friction modifier so it looks like the tc issue is historic.

To be fair to the car it's pretty dam good apart from the tc issue noisey front brake pads, leaky air con pipe and a couple of other small items.

Iv got fluids/plugs/filters and a new battery sitting here once iv resolved the issue of e diff or not I make sure iv got the correct fluid for that and get to it.
