My 2012 4.4 tdv8 died on the motorway last night, and now trying to find out what's wrong with it, as my GAP tool says there are no faults!

My guess is no fuel from the high pressure pump as the fuel rail pressure is much lower than the expected pressure both those from live data on the GAP

So the question is, any other suggestions!? Starter turns over, but no start and no faults! Im fairly sure the tank pump works as the bleed on top of the filter squirts. Any idea what that bleed pressure should be?

Has anybody here changed the high pressure pump, and is there a workshop procedure, or any other hints and tips, or is it just a straight unbolt and bolt on a new.

Anybody else suffer from this and is this common at only 86K miles?

Pump ideally should be timed using JLR special tooling, engine at TDC, fit special tooling to pump, use guides to slide pump home. It's documented in my thread "All I Want for Christmas". L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

It should have around 5 bar from the filter pressure port. There are a few threads on the internet with crank no start after a replacement HPFP, but they've never been finished with the fix.

I also have crank no start with no fault codes after replacing the pressure sensor and one fuel pipe.

I'd start with the Cheap/Easy things first, have you checked it has got fuel in? - sounds stupid but you wouldn't be the first to get caught out like that.
Could someone have put petrol/Adblue in it?

Yes, I have checked it has correctly filled fuel and plenty of it.
Like others, I have done all the obvious stuff. Obviously others have had the same problem, but as somebody mentioned the fixes haven't been publicised Previously......

Hi Chaps, so an update

Tried a few times this morning so see if it miraculously cures overnight, well it is Easter.
Doesn't start.

Made a fuel pressure adapter to fit to fuel filter bleed. 4.5 bar output, maybe slightly low from ideal, i'm not sure?

Still no start

Work this out!

Sprayed ice freezer spray on high pressure fuel pump area, and it now starts and runs fine. Gave it half an hour to regain the engine bay temperature. And it still starts.
Going to work shortly (without it) , so will try it again tonight, and tomorrow morning and report back to see if it still starts.

Now, are there any sensors attached to the HPFP, or any other ideas as to what's going on?!! Previously......

The pump has a fuel temperature sensor and a metering valve. It is all in the workshop manual in the wiki.

What made you think to use the spray? I've never heard of it before.

Freeze spray can temporarily fix dodgy electronic components. I sprayed the general pump area, in hindsight I should have been more specific on where I sprayed if knew a bit more about the pump and whereabouts of the sensor locations

Lets see what happens tomorrow. I guess I will add a can to the extensive travelling roadside tool kit

To make the adapter its 7/16 UNF (on the filter) to 1/4 NPT (for the gauge), so got a bit of nylon rod, (but could have been any material to hand) and tapped each end, its very simple. I can do a pic when I get 5 minutes. You have to unscrew the Schrader valve core a bit for fuel to pass through, and an old towel underneath to catch the spills. Pressure gauges are only a few pounds for a 10 bar one as fitted to a welding regulator. Previously......
