Range Rover L405 Fuel Tank Cradle Compatibility

I'm trying to confirm compatibility across the various fuel tank cradle (shield) part numbers used on the L405 Range Rover. From what I’ve gathered, there appear to be four distinct part numbers, plus several superseded numbers.

What I’m trying to determine is whether some of the newer cradles (especially LR140295) are backwards-compatible with earlier models. If anyone has fitted one of these parts to a different year or spec than listed (or has access to EPC/TOPIx data) your insight would be appreciated.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

LR045366

Application: Range Rover L405 (up to 2015)

Engine Compatibility: Primarily 3.0L V6 diesel

Notes: Designed for early models without the AdBlue system. Appears to be a V6-only part.

LR054812

    Application: Range Rover L405 (2013–2016)

Engine Compatibility: 3.0L V6 diesel, 4.4L V8 diesel, and petrol variants

    Superseded Numbers: LR036705, LR045346, LR048108, LR048111

Notes: Most common early cradle. Covers a wide range of non-AdBlue models.

LR071011

    Application: Range Rover L405 (2016)

    Engine Compatibility: 4.4L V8 diesel

    Superseded Numbers: None recorded

Notes: Introduced alongside the AdBlue system in 2016. May be unique to that year.

LR140295

Application: Range Rover L405 (2017 onwards)

    Engine Compatibility: 3.0L V6 and 4.4L V8 diesel

    Superseded Numbers: LR088939, LR092037, LR122714

Notes: Updated design for AdBlue-equipped facelift models. May be retrofittable to earlier AdBlue models — but unclear.

Has anyone successfully used LR140295 on a 2016 model? Or fitted LR054812 to an early V6 that originally had LR045366?

Any real-world experience or official compatibility confirmations would be welcome. Is the 2016 one really unique, for example? Or will the 2017 > fit? Is early the 3.0 one really unique? Or will LR054812 fit it too? As they are both listed for 3.0 models. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Interesting findings, sorry I can't help with your question. Are you thinking of having some made...?? Pete

I'm looking into it to see if it's viable. But I'd rather not make four if I was doing so. That would be a returns nightmare. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

I would think LRO 54812 would be the one to start with, it's mostly the early cars that are suffering... Then when you have one see if it fits the others....

Think if I was making one I'd split it in two on the top of the hump that goes over the prop and have welded studs one side with corresponding holes and nuts supplied... Should be able to change it with just the exhaust and heat shields off and leave the prop where it is.... Thumbs Up Pete

I would agree with the early one ... mine is rusting away and its a 2015.

I've always wondered : Does it *need* the hoop over the top ? It would be a far easier job if you split it into 2 cradles without the top hoop altogether, and each side shared use of the centre rear bolt.

Or 2 cradles and then a top hoop riveted into place on them. V8 or else ...

Very Happy

Hi Stuart, glad you’ve taken the gauntlet!

I’d be prepared to take some decent pics of my LR140295 for you, maybe others can do likewise, so you can research the subtle differences?

It’s not just the 2013/14 cars affected, it’s all of them, the 3mm tin rots pretty fast, especially the little brackets on top which you can’t see, this is something which will write off fullfats by the score in future if we don’t find an aftermarket supply. Big Cry

For the uninitiated, these are not just shields, they actually hold up the fuel tank, and a smaller one holds up the AdBlue tank too, so both potential MOT failure points. Maybe the MOT folks think they are just tin shields, Shhhhhhhh! V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

I wonder what the MOT tester would think of straps keeping the tank in place, same as many other cars have. 🤔.
Like many others I'm eagerly awaiting an aftermarket product.

I can see why nobody has made these yet. It'd take a big ass press to make them, they look bigger than a conventional pallet would take, so custom pallets to ship them. And custom-made boxes to ship them to the end user. Not to mention storage space. This is why they are a few hundred quid each.

Thanks for the photos, Haylands. I'll send them to the folks in China and see what they say. It may be such a press will cost eleventy trillion for tooling, but we'll see.

I wonder if making them out of plastic would be feasible? Like boot liners are made of. They wouldn't rust again then. Anyone have any thoughts on that? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Plastic would be easier but I would be concerned about the exhaust heat on the diesels if they were doing a dpf regen where the exhaust gets very hot. Then again, I suppose you could simply stick reflective material onto the plastic V8 or else ...

It is pretty big, it won't fit sideways in the boot and you have to put the seats down to get enough room...

Thick custom-made boxes to ship those then. I bet they'll be £5-10 each in small runs.

I may have a lead on the early type. I'm working on it. Mr. Green
