Looking good and your helper looks very happy, excellent work, don't forget to check the front knuckles whilst you are in the wheel arches.

That's polishing up lovely, great colour inside and out. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Evening folks. Another couple of jobs ticked off the list. First up, a gearbox service.

Spied a leak whilst I was down there. Further investigation is required here, I have recent evidence of Oil cooler replacement so I should be able to rule that out.

New ZF pan.

Old pan indicating an April 2014 production date. The original filter at least!

I’d say it was fairly safe to assume that this is the original fluid, too. I did a full drain/fill sequence with gearchanges/increased idle speed in between to ensure the torque converter was full of fluid. I was able to drain approximately 3 litres of oil at a time. I actually did this 5 times and ended up with a much, much cleaner fluid.

The only real way I could show the fluid colour was by shaking it like a maniac. I didn’t have paper or smaller vessels on hand, sadly.
With the gearbox oil changed, I reset the adaptation values and went out for a drive. As expected, there was some weird behaviour initially, though this has now stopped after some miles and I’m pleased to report that it’s silky smooth. Particularly noticeable from cold. It used to hang onto second gear and was a little harsh engaging third. Not anymore!
I did also change the front differential fluid, though I forgot to take any pictures.
Next up was the rotten rear plate in the incorrect size…

Off, to reveal that someone with a not so delicate hand had been here before. Note the gouges in the paint where someone had used a tool. Applied tar & glue remover to clean up the sticky pad residue.

Hit it with the polisher to remove some of the damage. 3M Fast Cut Plus on an MF pad, followed by Menzerna 3800. It’s much better, though not perfect.

Much better! Fitted with a fresh dealer plate in the correct size.
Finally, I took a look at the MAP sensor.

I’ve not seen one quite as nasty as this. I did check the live data to read the data from this sensor, and it seemed well, though I’m not sure how. There was a layer of oily gunk, over the top of some very hard carbon. I soaked it in brake cleaner and managed to get it a lot cleaner. No discernible difference in how it runs or drives though Confused

After seeing the state of this, I can only imagine the state of the plenum & inlet manifold. Do people delete the EGR’s on these with success? Asking for a friend Laughing

Your number plate makes me very calm. I hate these on the wrong size plates! First thing I did to mine..

The MAF is like that constantly, I cleaned mine a few months ago and did not cover many miles, ran on V power exclusively and also a Wynns treatment shortly after cleaning it up. It was the same as it was prior to cleaning it 2 months later.

I just do it now when I have nothing better to do and want to tinker
