That’s a good look too, think I saw one on one of the FB groups an Aruba one from the US and it really suited it!

Doesn’t look too bad from the photos but the badge would do my head in, so I’m assuming the Powerful one fits the correct badge

Original one (I think it looks too much like a Discovery)

2nd one... I liked this one..

3rd one, far too blingey for me...

4th and new one, supposed to look like the L460 one, I like this as well...

I fitted a black Range Rover badge this time....

I thought I would see if the Pirelli PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) actually made any difference.

I was running Pirelli Scorpion Verdy, without the PNCS, they had around 4.5mm of even tread but I don't like to run them too thin before changing to new rubber

This was the dB's at 70mph with no other cars around...

Then the same bit of road at the same speed, with four new Pirelli Scorpion Zeros, with PNCS, and this was the result...

Apparently the way dB work means that a 3dB reduction actually means the noise level has been halved....

I'm not sure how this dB malarky works but I do have to say it is noticeably quieter than it was, especially at low speeds.

It is also much smoother than it was, this could be caused by the difference between the old tyres and having Jan 2025 tyres with more supple side walls..

Very happy with them all round though... Pete

I had the Zeros on my L322 and the difference was amazing. It does vary by road surface, like any tyre, but on fresh tarmac there was basically no discernible tyre noise!

Will upgrade to these when I shred the verdes on the L405, with better NVH from factory I imagine it will be sublime

2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Firenze Red

When my car went in for MOT in June,, I had two Contacts and two Verdes, it failed on 3 of the tyres despite there being 4mm plus on all tyres.
They offending tyres were 5 years old an starting to delaminate.
Was going for PNCS bit couldn't get them in time for the retest, so had to settle for the Continentals, I'm pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is.
The tyres I replaced were from the original owners, wouldn't normally have different manufacturers. But the were on the same axle, now all for are Contacts.

Thanks chaps, was lucky enough to pick up four tyres all dated Jan 2025 in just the spec I wanted

As in my other thread I found this on one of the front wheels.....

It's been there at least 3 years, the wheel/tyre has a very slow leak, a couple of PSI a month, anyway, long story short it's in the bin and a nice new one from eBay has sorted it...

I asked the fitter to mount the damaged wheel and tyre on their balance rig and check it whilst spinning, there was a flat spot on the rim where the weld is and the tyre was out of true, very slightly but it wasn't right so it had to go....

Stan, Yes, all ready, oil changed, all fluids checked, full check underneath, French air quality sticker thingy, toll payment bleeper thingy, IID packed, we already have EU cover on breakdown so all set I think....

Craig, Thanks for the offer, luckily there was a new, old stock one on eBay for £170 and it was local so picked up Thursday and already fitted. I could do with the main battery plastic tray, mine has a stripped out thread on one of the inserts, not dire and the battery is not going anywhere but I'd like to change it if you have one?......

DB, they are 21's and the standard tyre size is 275/45/21.. Pete

I've now had the L405 coming up to 3 years so thought I'd post on what it has taken to keep it on the road and in top condition including prices.

I've done just under 20,000 miles in it, it's now just ticked over to 90,000 miles since new in 2014

I think most things are covered below but not necessarily in the correct order...

Fatty came with a few months of JLR warranty, it went in for it's last few items that were highlighted just before the JLR warranty expired.

One new rear shock, new drivers door handle and suspension pump £740 £0 from me..

The ARC rear and front pipes were renewed, cost around £1,000 in parts.

Aircon needed a regas, that cost £130.

New main battery (5 yr warranty) £170

Repaired split in rear tailgate and fixed it's lack of movement Cost £1 for a big washer

Replacement of fuel tank guard, had it galvanised, total cost £360

New rear wiper arm, and three wipers £80

It's an Autobiography so has just about everything you would want, it came with a Merryway Android head unit with CarPlay and a TFT HVAC panel so it feels younger than it is.. Now works how I want. New CarPlay dongle required £40

Four new discs, reconditioned rear callipers, Powerstop pads all round. Got a good deal from a member on discs and callipers, total cost under £300

Fitted titanium bleed nipples on the front 6pot Brembo's which were renewed just before I bought it, and tef-gelled.. £23

I've got a tracker and a separate immobilizer as well as a few other things which I'm not going into here... £200

Sleeping battery and faraday bag £55

New windscreen, Pilkington, cost £110 excess..

aftermarket grilles x 3 current one in pic £180

New wiper cap, two new air duct guide. £31

Two wheels refurbed, one new £340

Gearbox and diff oils changed £440

New boot mat £70

Paint correction including 5 year ceramic coat £400

Three services and 3 interim oil changes. £750

Four new Pirelli PNCS Zero's. £720

All the bolts and nuts I could find underneath, have been removed, cleaned and treated with Tef-gel,

Steel rear subframe mounts cleaned treated and isolated, underneath and wheel arches cleaned and treated, both front ground points sorted. Used what I had in stock £0...!

So that little lot comes to £5,360, mostly service parts, I don't think any would have been claimed on a warranty so it seemed a good choice to not renew it three years ago...

It was going to cost £1,700 a year to renew so would have been another £5,100 and a minimal return

Warranty work at £740 before it ran out...

So that's about £1,750 a year to run a £100,000 Range Rover. Personally I think that is excellent value even if there is no labour in that price. Passed it's MOT every year with no advisories.

It still looks excellent for an 11 year old car, exterior has a few stone chips across the front, no scuffs or car park dings.... inside is immaculate and is still a lovely place to sit...

The rest of the fatty was looking nice but it was let down by the running boards...

They are pretty rusty and were deforming, the silver edge made it worse and hitting a high curb didn't help....

I decided all black ones would stay looking nice longer, after loads of rustproofing they were fitted...

We have a hosepipe ban so it's not been washed in a while...
