Are L460's really worth it.

I need to get a new car, logic tells me it has to be the new model, L460, but looking on Autotrader a 2021 L405 is about half the price of a 2022 L460 thats £50k v £100k don't get me wrong its not the affordability that bothers me but will I be getting VFM with an L460? Geoff

For me, the law of diminishing marginal utility applies. I could afford it but I couldn't justify it to myself.

Trouble is, it applies further down the food chain. So I find myself eyeing 2017/18 L405s because I can't justify 2019/20/21 to myself 😭 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Geoff, I'm currently driving around in a 2024 RR sport (hire car whilst my L405 is in the 'The shop'.)

The engine (3.0L inline 6 ingenium) is superb, v fast, has a nice burble. gearbox is sublime, v. smooth and the driving experience is very nice.

However ..........

I am so p@ssed off at the 'driver aids' - it resets to the highest level (lane assist/interference, speed warning etc) every time you switch off, which needs to be reset every time you set off. The central screen is a pain and requires 'eyes off the road' to navigate.

I, like you, was going to hold on to my faultless L322, waiting for the L460 to come down in price before changing, but having had a drive in the L460, I was underwhelmed. Prices seem to have gone up in recent months too, although a 2022 is c. £70-80k. My 2015/16 L405 AB has more toys, presence and capability than any FFRR I have had, at a quarter of the price of a L460. I know I made the right choice.

If one can get a recent (2020 onwards) 3.0L (ingenium) L405, I would rather have that.

The Ingenium 3.0L was only available in the MY21.5 L405. Mine has more than enough aids for my liking but most can be permanently switched off or to a low level, although it took a Gap tool to avoid having to switch off stop-start every time. This was my only desired upgrade from my previous MY12 4.4TDV8 AB L322. L405 D350 SE Carpathian Grey D5 19" rims

I am now officially confused chat GPT seems to suggest that the D300 is a straight six and been in RR since 2020. I know the D350 was only available in later cars but is that the only straight six? Geoff

I bought a 2021 Range Rover fifty last year for the exact reasons that Geoff mentioned. Is the 460 twice as good, doubt it. Whistle Mine has every option apart from tow bar (never be used anyway) Thumbs Up
